Islam Slimani Makes First Start For Newcastle At Everton

Rafa Benitez has just announced his team for the game tonight against Everton at Goodison Park and in the game at St. James’ Park earlier this season we were beaten 1-0 in what was a close game.

And the big news is that Islam Slimani, on loan from Leicester City makes his very first start for the club tonight.

This will be a massive opportunity for the 29-year-old Algerian International who has been injured most of the time since he signed on loan on January 31st.

Let’s hope he can play well and lead the line well and maybe score for us tonight – goals are what will make Rafa interested in signing him permanently this summer.

Islam Slimani – makes first start tonight

Newcastle fans seem fairly confident with three in five fans thinking we can win this game to make it five wins in a row.

We win Mickey? 🙂 Predictable, but understandable. Need to see how he plays after all. Seriously fancy us to carry on our unbeaten streak – and the winning one.

Disappointed to see Mbemba not make the bench, but other than that looks like our strongest lineup. I’m predicting a 1-2 win, with Slimani scoring one. HTL!

I’ve been away for a few days so belatedly, I hope your scans went as well you wanted them to. And Happy birthday to the blog, lets hope for another 11 years (at least) during which time we all have some really good times to celebrate.

This line-up surprises me actually. After this week’s Rafa comments, I’d expected more fringe players involved, but this says he’s not quite done with the season just yet, and I’m happy to see it!

Congratulations Ed on eleven great years blogging celebrated today.
What with today being St.George’s day as well as the anniversary of Shakespear’s death and the birth of the sixth in line to the throne, it’s certainly turning out to be a memorable one.
All we need now is a record win for our lads this evening to make it perfect.

You honestly thought that Rafa was going to let the lads put their flip flops on, he’ll be desperate to finish eighth.

Team for those who haven’t seen it

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka; DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Paul Dummett; Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diamé, Jonjo Shelvey, Kenedy; Ayoze Pérez; Islam Slimani.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, Ciaran Clark, Isaac Hayden, Mikel Merino, Jacob Murphy, Dwight Gayle.

Thought he might have thrown Fernandez into the mix.

Think that’s my 3rd guess right, mind you it was fairly predictable the last three games. 🙂

Very glad to see Slimani start. Should be a good game. Hope the lads still have the fire in their belly and keep doing us proud. I think Slim is a great player and an upgrade on what we have, he just has to prove it now and we could be in with a chance of getting him permanently this summer.

    Jail,

I think you’re right – I suppose I should stop hoping for that.

Should be an interesting battle between Slimani and Cenk Tosun, who we couldn’t get to come to Newcastle. Let’s show him why he was wrong to head to Goodison!

Nah, I would imagine that he would get the same focus out of whoever goes out there- but these are obviously the players that he depends on the most to get the job done. It was just from his comments that I thought he might shake things up a tiny bit – but I’m glad he wants to push for 8th, he must know that’s what the fans want too!

Called it with Slimani starting but no other risks with a highest possible finish to aim for. Rafa won’t abandon any stat until it is entirely spent and utterly exhausted!

A draw. I would be happy with that. They overpaid for players but they have palyed some decent games. I’m liking the sight of Slimani in there however. Should be a good one.Haven’t watched Everton in quite a while.
