This Situation Could See Benitez Refuse To Sign New Deal

Mike Ashley is a good businessman, and he will be looking at how much Newcastle have improved this year under Rafa’s guidance.

Like any businessman, he will realize that Newcastle are now worth more than they were late last year.

At that time he was willing to sell for around £300M to Amanda Staveley, but now the price will have gone up.

Sky Sports reported the price he wants is now between £380M and £400M and he may not get any bidders at that price.

Mike Ashley – Newcastle owner

But Ashley will also be thinking of how much Newcastle will be worth in a couple of years time if he can keep Rafa on board and we continue to improve.

Sky Sports (Keith Downie) has reported on that today:

“If Amanda Staveley’s takeover does go through, Benitez will be expected to commit to a longer contract.”

“If that happens I think he will 100% stay because he has been key in that process, but as it stands now it’s 50:50 whether it will happen or not.”

“The issue now is that the more Newcastle win and the better they play, the more the value of the club rises, which will make it tougher to push through the takeover.”

“The fans are loving the recent form and they deserve that, but for every place in the table, you gain more money, which might make Ashley more reluctant to sell.”

“It’s a fine balance but what is certain is that Rafa is happy in Newcastle.”

“He loves the club and he loves the city. He wants the club’s potential to be realized under his watch.”

Ashley doesn’t need to do much but stay in the background and give Rafa sufficient money for each transfer window – as much as he can afford.

In that way, Newcastle should do a lot better in the league, and the price of the club will continue to rise.

But Ashley has hardly supported Mr. Benitez since January of last year, and that’s made it very difficult for the manager.

He’s fighting to make Newcastle a much better side without the help of the owner!

As Sky Sports reports the significant difficulty for Ashley is how he gets Rafa to sign a new deal when he still owns the club.

That’s his problem and it’s likely Rafa will refuse to sign any new deal with Ashley still the owner.

Ah, the quintessential catch 22. Got to hand it to Ash, he’s as ruthless a villain as they come.

My thoughts on last night’s match.

1, We weren’t in the game first half
    2, Slimani didn’t look good
3, When Gayle came on we looked better
4, Perez was beaten up by everton and the referee did nothing about it
    That leads me onto
    5, The ref was appalling
6, We still can’t score for toffee (see what I did there?)

61 votes for Diame as MOM? Can’t believe that.
He went back to his earlier form last night. Must have displaced about 75% of his passes, ran around in midfield without any structure and on more than one occasion pulled out of a head to head challenge.
Maybe I was looking at a different game?
Also thought majority of the players didn’t perform last night. Complacency perhaps. or maybe they have been reading too much publicity praising their recent good play and burgeoning reputations?
Only Kenedy looked like he had the balance and skill to match Everton last night and must be bought for next season although Ashley will probably offer a pair of Sports Direct socks and a packet of Smarties for him.
All in all three points lost against a very mediocre team last night and a chance to wipe the smile off that juvenile goalkeeper’s face.

Can’t believe the comments of some of the morons on here when we loose, I wouldn’t care, most of them originally said we would be relegated before before the last game of the season. We made one change to accommodate Slimani, It was obvious to me he wasn’t fully match fit and should have been subbed at half time, Shelvey definitely missed his out ball to Gayle in the first half, I thought Ritchie did well again, he won the aerial battles on the right flanks, I was never a fan of Perez but he won me over in the past few weeks and didn’t deserve the stick he got last night but I am not surprised.

It is vital that Benitez does not sign a new contract whilst Ashley owns the club.
The second Benitez signs a new contract Ashley will disappear with all the clubs cash once again.
The club is worth £50m to £100m more with Rafa as a long term contracted manager. He needs to hold out for a new owner; surely he can not want to continue the pain of setting up transfers only for mad Ashley to disappear on holiday to the US and seemingly claim he can not be contacted!
