Rafa will be meeting with Mike Ashley to see what the situation is and he will find out at that meeting is Ashley’s ambitions match his.
He’ll probably be disappointed at that, but the main thing he will want from Ashley is cast-iron assurances from the owner that he will be given sufficient funds to improve the side so Newcastle can start to challenge for trophies.
Rafa has shown even with very little support from Ashley that he can improve the side because of his expert coaching and man-management.
Rafa Benitez – happy with Newcastle’s situation
But that’s much more difficult than it should be, and Rafa has deserved to get significant support from the owner.
This is what Rafa has said on nufcTV about the current situation:
“I think we have to be really pleased with the situation now,”
“It is a pity to lose this game, but the target was to stay up. We are in the Premier League for the next season, and that is the main thing for now.”
“In these kind of games, it is something which can give you the idea of how much you need to improve to stay and compete at this level.”
“I think they (West Brom) have improved, they are doing well, they are fighting, and it seems like they could be relegated because they are in a difficult situation.”
“But still they have the passion and the desire that means they will work really hard trying to get points against us.”
Newcastle are now going to be up for sale for close to £400M, and that’s a cool £100M increase in the takeover price.
That’s in a short four months in which Newcastle have sprinted to safety in the Premier League.
We haven’t heard from Mike Ashley for .a long time, so we don’t know what he is thinking, although that is nothing new.
Surely he will support Rafa to the full extent possible?
