Rafa And Reps In Positive Discussions With Newcastle Hierarchy – Wants Things Resolved Quickly

Rafa Benitez has revealed he has already had discussions with the club (Lee Charnley) on the transfer budget, the plan for the future and his possible contract extension.

These talks will continue next week, and Rafa himself is hoping he can get things agreed as quickly as possible, so that seems quite positive with still four games to play this season.

We assume Rafa knows what Mike Ashley plans to do in the summer, and it may not be to sell the club.

It could be that Ashley may have changed his mind after Newcastle with Rafa at the helm have done so well this year.

Ashley may actually help Rafa in the summer transfer window and then we will see where Newcastle can go next season!

Rafa Benitez – at a previous press conference

This is some of what Rafa has said in his press conference today about the future:

“I have had conversations with the club and we will talk again next week.”

“My representatives are talking with Lee Charnley and they will again.”

“It is about my future and everything else too. But we will see what happens.”

“It is good if things are resolved quickly.”

“I don’t want to talk about my ambitions. We have to talk, the ambitions of the club are the ambitions of the fans.”

“We have to try to do our best with this massive club”

You’re assuming that Rafa knows what Mike Ashley plans to do in the summer?

I can’t even see Charnley knowing what Ashley’s thinking let alone Rafa!

Anyway, any conversations with Charnley’ll come to nothing until they’ve been related up the food chain via Barnes to Ashley and back down again. That’ll waste some time before it even comes to committing money to projects.

An extract from the Chronic’s report on Rafa’s presser:

‘Funny moment when Rafa is asked about Iniesta leaving Barca: “Do we know what team he is going to?” Someone jokes “Newcastle”, to which he responds with a smile: “Maybe, we will see if we can prepare something for him. Maybe he would like to come here’

Now we know why Jib’s been spending so much time in Spain of late. Keep an eye open for him looking at houses in the very exclusive areas of North Shields, near Casa Jiblets!

Why should it mean PCP are out of it?

Think back, Ashley originally wanted £350m for the club

PCP seemed to value it at £250m cash no strings or £300m subject to relegation clause. Don’t forget, Ashley was said to be prepared to accept £300m cash without strings.

Ashley’s now asking £400m presumably because he sees an injection of a hundred or so million TV and prize money. Assuming the TV/ prize money stays in the club then its value will rise commensurately and £400m (incl TV/ prize money) seems much same as his original £350m/ £300m asking price.

Let’s hope that PCP come back or another serious border rocks up with a sensible offer.
