Benitez Lays Down The Law – The Everton Game Was Not Good

There was a little bit of a hiccup at Everton last Monday night when the lads did not play well, and we lost for the first time in five games after winning four games on the trot.

And Rafa has talked about the fact the players cannot relax if we want to keep up the good results of the last few months in the final four games left this season.

Today is a home game against the bottom of the league side West Brom.

But the Baggies are now playing well, and Newcastle will have to be a lot better than Monday night to win the game.

Rafa Benitez – no game is easy – players cannot relax

This is what Rafa has said about his players in the Chronicle:

“For us, the way to keep people focused is to remind everybody that we can make changes and give a chance to everyone.”

“They also deserve these opportunities because they did well during the season. I think it’s now about keeping the balance.”

“Players need to impress at this stage of the season and do well. That is the key for us.”

“We want to do well but we also want to be fair with the players who have played all season.”

“At Everton, we had more shots on target.” “The point is we have to take them.”

“Against Leicester and Bournemouth we did so well away from home and had the same situations but we were missing the final pass.”

“It could be totally different. Normally we create chances and attack at home.”

“We have to keep doing the same. But believe me I watched West Brom and they are quite dangerous, they get people coming from behind and they have runners.”

“They know they have to win and that’s it.”

“It’s not easy to maintain the same focus.” “The Everton game was not good.” “We didn’t play well.”

“We were solid as a team but we have to something more in attack if we want to get points in games.”

“It proves that you can’t relax.” “You can’t think that any game is easy just because you’ve won four games in a row.”

“Everybody knows that it’s been a great achievement and now we have to finish well.”

“It’s more difficult to keep everybody on their toes because we have done our job.”

Benitez can be ruthless if players are not performing and giving 100% and even though we have done well this season he will still drop players if they do not perform.

If Rafa believes that some at Everton were not completely on it, then I would say (with no prejudice) that Perez could be replaced.

In fact we did play well in the 2nd half and didn’t deserve to lose. Poor reffing did for us.

Lindisfarne do you mean the same Perez who was roughed up badly by Evertons defenders with no protection from the ref. and also the same guy who has scored several vital goals in the last few games.

    Essex Geordie Bill

I would not count on the Ref today being any more helpful and whilst I appreciate how much Perez has improved, if Rafa is going to make changes he would be the player I expect to be on the bench. Please note I am not one to continually do Perez down.
