Club’s Value Up By £100M And Benitez’ Talks With Charnley Going Well

Lee Charnley was the man who did the negotiations to get Rafa Benitez to come to Newcastle on March 11th, 2016.

And once again Mike Ashley is leaving the negotiations to get Rafa to stay on at Newcastle to the Managing Director – who has a good working relationship with Charnley.

Indeed one of the things Rafa wanted when he decided to stay with us in May 2016 was to keep Charnley in place as the top executive at Newcastle.

Rafa was upbeat and even jovial with the reporters yesterday.

Rafa Benitez – upbeat yesterday

And we have to remember this year the manager has almost single-handedly increased the value of Mike Ashley’s club by up to £100M.

Fact.

You would, therefore, think the owner will give Rafa everything he wants to keep him at the club because he’s earned it.

From Rafa’s demeanor yesterday you could even conclude the initial conversations with the club have gone (very) well.

This is what Rafa told the Chronicle about the negotiations:

“The positive thing is we are talking, I agree with that.”

“We have had a conversation.” “Will have more meetings next week and see where we are.”

“As I said before the issue for me is to concentrate on football and leave the representatives and Lee Charnley to do the talks.”

We wonder if Mike Ashley – given that he keeps the club – will bother to come to the games next season and continue to be an absent owner.

But it’s clear from a business viewpoint that Rafa is key to Mike Ashley and Newcastle United – he will keep increasing the value of Newcastle United.

That’s why Mike Ashley will not want to sell Newcastle – any time soon.

And why Ashley will not screw up these vital talks to keep Rafa Benitez as the Newcastle manager.

‘Benitez has opened contract talks with Newcastle through his representatives, and hopes for a quick resolution that would be “good for everybody”. (Times)

Which ‘representatives’ would those be? I thought Benitez represented himself these days.

Rafa has a team of lawyers that deals with his contract, Rafa Ain’t daft. Don’t think there is any trust between them.

Now that we are safe should Rafa be playing the bench to see who is worth keeping or continue on with the same team and try to get every point we can?

Ed reckons the clubs’s value is up £100m
So what was the starting point £250m ?
So £350m and threat of relegation gone would seem to be the asking price ?

I hope Mondays result wasn’t an example of our season petering out. I’m sure it wasn’t and that poxy waterlogged pitch was responsible. Hopefully a cracking atmosphere up there today to get us in fine settle for the Chelsea party.

Mashley gambled big time this season on Nufc’ s status in the Pl and it paid off for him big time.
The balls unfortunately in Ashley’s court now as it always has been. So unless someone comes in with what he wants then we are stuck with him.
Remember last year’s rumours of keeping Rafa on board and a 80-100 transfer budget.

    davetoon,
I never thought much of Everton’s home form this season. But after watching them water that pitch before kick off and half time then seeing our players slip and slide and under hit passes, I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

I’d like to see Rafa give Murphy a game and give Ritchie a rest. Murphy hasn’t had many opportunities lately because the team has been playing so well.

@JFA Yeah that pitch looked dodgy, players slipping over everywhere.
But about Everton, they are 7th on the home games table and 15th on away table. But main point is we don’t seem to match up well against them.
