At Least Two Premier League Clubs Likely To Move For Benitez In Summer

Leicester City seem to be stumbling towards the end of the season, and there is said to be unrest in the dressing room associated with Frenchman Claude Puel management style.

Puel lasted only one year with Southampton before he was let go although the Saints are now struggling to survive in the Premier League.

Their 2-1 home win over Bournemouth yesterday makes them only one point from safety (and Swansea) with 3 games to play.

The Star are reporting today that Leicester City want Rafa Benitez this summer.

Rafa Benitez – will hopefully sign a new deal to stay at Newcastle

And West Ham are also not safe yet on 35 points, and current manager David Moyes may not be retained when his short-term contract runs out this summer.

West Brom have picked up 8 points in their last four games and Southampton also won yesterday – beating Bournemouth 2-1 at home.

West Ham Chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan have long been big fans of Rafa Benitez and almost signed him in June of 2015 before he got the Real Madrid job.

It’s a good bet they will be inquiring about his availability at Newcastle this summer.

It is, therefore, a crucial few weeks to get Rafa signed up to a new contract on Tyneside with his current three-year deal running out in June of next year.

Managing Director Lee Charnley is leading those negotiations with Rafa’s representatives, and the manager has already held a positive one-on-one discussion with current owner Mike Ashley.

It’s not surprising top clubs are after Rafa Benitez – he seems to get inquiries about his services quite regularly.

That’s because he’s so good at what he does.

Comments welcome.

Adios amigo. If Ashley had any intention of selling do ya really think he would bang another 100 mill on the club when there was hardly any interest before.
He’s a chancer and pays in peanuts to his business to get maximum profit.
Rafa has performed miracles with what he has at his disposal this season so I wish him all the best for what he has done to the club if he was to leave

Leicester City – can offer Rafa nothing.
West Spam – a poisoned chalice

Why not Swansea as there might be a derby against Cardiff to look forward too, but it might be in the Championship, who knows

Jail generally it’s more useful to let people know what info they’re asking for rather than telling them where they might have found it.

Posada nobody expects strikers to be perfect but a striker who can put away the majority of good chances presented would be nice and not unreasonable.

Cyprus if I want to vote for my man of the match I’ll do just that based on my own criteria which I don’t need to justify and you surely don’t need to question

Both Liverpool and ourselves fell victim to the lack
    of rotation this weekend
The Reds after the Roma game needed to rest players
but couldn’t because of injuries and us because we just
don’t have enough top grade players
I think Klopp has shown the way forward for PL
managers which is weird cos his only experience
    is in German footy.

With Wenger and Conté gone this Summer
I think Rafa will be a top 5 manager

    Pochettino
    Mourinho
    Guardiola
    Klopp
    Benitez

    in no particular order

So some think we are on the beach . Not what I saw as there was the usual effort by all (this is a Rafa side) especially by Diame Perez and Ritchie but without any real penetration of a well drilleed West Brom. Dhelvey was closed down a lot ( Rodriguez seemed detailed to close him when sitting deep.) and movement up front was patchy.

If we were on beach why weren’t West Brom? – because they played for the manager and he directed and cajoled them from the bench. Game plan was as often seen – close us down, waste time from the off and capitilise on free kicks, throw ins and particularly defensive lapses when poor pssing turns over possession. It worked but we did miss better chances than they had.

Overall a poor game following on from Everton but frustratingly both we could and should have got something from. Jail had better hope his presence at Warford inspires better passing and movement otherwise probaly no points again unless Watford have a mare.

Some seem sanguine on here and I guess it is because they weren’t there but I was certainly not feeling that after a 200 mile round trip to sit on L7 in freezing cold again ( it’s late April c’mon on!!) and see a succession of poor passes and movement from players who managed better in recent games.

Charlie is right about the slipping back into sideways passing but credit West Brom with sticking to their plan coupled with our insufficient good movement, terrible passing and Shelvey being stymied with no other creativity available. Some cajoling on pitch by Lascelles wouldn’t have gone a miss ( not his best game though) as only Ritchie seemd interested in encouraging his fellow players in 2cnd half .

On reflection maybe the reality of staying up and the realisation by several players on the pitch they are running out of their time here ( or at least as regulars) has hit home. I think both full backs, Gayle, Slimani fall into that category. It is difficult to fathom after the Arsenal game and coming back from a goal down how 2 ineffectual performances have followed when it is clear Rafa is not on the beach!!

A bad day at the office – not through lack of effort but through a lot of unforced errors and ball-watching. Not sure why. We gave West Brom confidence by gifting them the first goal but we had 3 good chances to score that were spurned. If Kenedy scores, I think our mood would have changed and so would theirs. The keeper’s save from the header was brilliant – but the header should have been buried – and as for Joselu’s missed header -?!!
Very disappointed with Slimani – he was sloppy and disinterested.
At least we are mathematically safe now. Just hope we can keep Rafa one way or another and get some more players, especially goalscorers!

    very good summary @22

when we slip into that sideways mode it drives me nuts total none productive.
it was never going to be an easy game for us and Moore has WBA very well drilled in braking play up.
i was just wondering if the players are aware of what is going on in the background and its unnerved a few of them ???

Longer than anticipated comebacks from injury and a pretty much carefree attitude which is not what Nufc want

It would be a pity to see the season peter out but 4 or 5 must know that Rafa is targeting upgrades. I didn’t think slimani wud suit Rafa but they guy he wanted ended up a West Bromwich injured so that was probably not a smart move by rafa anyway. Fat sams lot shut down shelvey and so did West Brom and we need more from the right wing when that happens and a striker fast and strong enough to things happen from hopeful punts when our creativity isn’t there.

Well Ashley the time to go is NOW. Accept £350M for the club no strings attached. You have been extremely lucky that Rafa has worked miracles with this squad in what has been a very poor Premiership season apart from Man City. Rather pleased we have lost the last two matches as any further advancement up would just have meant a few more million in your back pocket. You’ve getaway with it yet again. Club could have been worth about £100M if we had gone down
Don’t keep stringing Rafa along let him know what is the true position now before the next season is upon us & nothing has changed. Really hope Rafa stays but in all honesty can’t see it
A bit of sensible advice, Cashley – just be honest for once in your life !

Thanks. As I said difficult to fathom and I sometimes think we don’t give credit to the other side especially bottom half sides. When I say credit I am not meaning expansive fotball but simply setting up in a discplined (frustrating) way, staying in a game and taking chances that come your way ( which in most game they do). We have used similar approach and had some success.

West Brom have some decent players ( not sure if i would have many here as replacements though – Phillips Rodriguez?) but recent displays have belied their rock bottom status. If they had made better choice after letting Pulis go they would have likely been out of relegation spots. Not certain Darren Moore is a good long term choice for them but wouldn’t be surprised if they give him a chance in the Championship. Also puts a question mark against the players there but that isn’t unusual in sides that struggle and can’t motivate themselves. Deliberately not mentioned the other likely factor.

Be interesting to see Rafa’s reaction to the 2 recent performances as he clearly isn’t happy but hasn’t got deep enough squad nor perhaps the necessity to make wholesale changes. I don’t think there are any players he hasn’t got a a good handle on already for his future plans.

If it is any clue to these aberational performances I strangely (optimistically?) believe that if either had been a must win game we would have done – go figure?

Slimani now done at Newcastle & don’t think Josh King at £20M is the answer. Suppose all the speculation will now start again with us being linked with highly rated strikers across the length & breadth of Europe but no firm offers with Ashley still at the helm. Can’t see how so many on here can just accept the situation. We are going nowhere different until this man is out of our Club. I’m sure if nothing positive comes out in next four weeks that Rafa will be off & who can blame him. The last two performances have shown we are still lacking in depth & quality, Without consistent performances from Diame, Shelvey, Dubravka & Kennedy we would be down by now.
