It is always important to finish the season on a high, and even though we were relegated two years ago, Rafa has managed to do that in the last two seasons.
Two years ago we were unbeaten in the last six games when we picked up 12 points and hammered Tottenham in that final game 5-1.
And last season we won the final three games to gain 7 points on Brighton i& Hove Albion in that period and win the Championship.
After two lackluster performances in the 1-0 defeats at Everton and at home to bottom club, West Brom on Saturday, Newcastle players need to improve – and that includes their attitude.
It will spoil the season if the lads stop fighting and stop giving everything they have – as they have all season – until we got to 41 points.
DeAndre Yedlin – challenging Rondon on Saturday
DeAndre Yedlin is disappointed with the performance as are most of the players.
This is what the American said as reported in the Northern Echo after the defeat on Saturday:
“We were all talking after the game and said it wasn’t good enough out there.”
“If the quality’s not there, the least you can do is show the fight. And we didn’t do that.”
“It was disappointing, we needed to show more fight and we didn’t. We didn’t create enough, that’s the name of the game.”
“They countered too many times and we fell asleep defensively. It was really disappointing.”
“We would be lying to say there is nothing like that contributing to it, but that’s not the mentality we want to have.”
“It is something we need to fix. Our last games we have to take that attitude into them and give our all.”
“We need to show the same fight we did when we tried to get to that 40-point mark.” “It’s important we finish on a high.”
“We went through a tricky patch before Christmas, where we didn’t play very well and there was some negativity around us, but we stayed positive in the camp.”
“Obviously we are going through a little dip at the moment and we need to stay positive. We need to start picking up results again.”
“Hopefully we can finish the season strongly.”
While it may be natural to relax after gaining safety against all the odds, it’s now a good chance for the team to become more professional.
We have three games left and 9 points to play for – we need to get back to the lads giving everything and recapture that “never say die” attitude.
It will be excellent preparation for next season, and we need to get back to the lads giving 100% – which is a sign of all Rafa Benitez teams.
Newcastle have done brilliantly this season, and we are proud of them but let’s have an excellent end to the season and make sure we finish in the top ten.
Howay The Lads!!
