Newcastle Must Get Back On Track At Watford – A Win Would Almost Guarantee 10th Place

Newcastle have a good chance on Saturday to get a win and help solidify our 10th place in the Premier League.

Three clubs are 3 points behind us in the league on 38 points; they are Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Watford and they all have worse goal differences than Newcastle.

Those three clubs have only two games to play so a win at Vicarage Road on Saturday would almost guarantee Newcastle 10th place in the league.

Also if Palace (at Stoke) and Bournemouth (at home to Swansea) both lose on Saturday, then they will not be able to overhaul Newcastle because of their inferior goal difference.

So there’s certainly something to play for on Saturday.

Islam Slimani – played his last game for Newcastle

And if we can get a win, we can then see if we can catch Leicester City who are finishing their season in poor form under manager Claude Puel.

Islam Slimani has been banned for three games by the FA, as expected, and he has played his last game for Newcastle.

There’s little chance Rafa will want to sign him for £21M in the summer.

I can see Watford giving this a 110% as a win will cement their safety, hopefully a few of our main boys will turn up and give it a go. Overall I think we will lose this based on us achieving our objective of safety. On the club sale, Cashly wants 350 and will not settle for any less, so unless a rich American is interested we will be pushing for another mid table finish next season.

3 nil to the Toon I reckon. Gayle to grab a brace, and Perez.

So, Rafa’s playing hard ball with iron balls.

We are 10th. Only 2 clubs outside the elite top six are any better than us.
It’s normally about now that MA puts a spanner in the works.

Rafa goes and he brings back JFK.
Has he learned that you have to get the best. Not listen to your mates in the Casino.
Wise to Ashley. No problem mate, with me as director of football I’ll give you a club based on the Arsenal model. 1.5 million a year is the going rate if that’s alright.
Apparently they are not mates any more.

If we play with the same attitude against Watford as we did against West Brom then we will be on the wrong end of a thrashing.

It’s a real shame we didn’t push harder
    for the 8th spot
With Arsenal and LPool in contention for
Euro cups and both FA cup finalists already qualified ,
there is a strong possibility that this seasons 8th place
will qualify for the Europa League.

    Only joking Posada,
Top six plus two does not make us 10th?!!
I am going to have a look at the table.

I would like to see Watford try to go for it as that would suit our game. Long pass football requires those spaces in the back to run into and we have a strong defence to absorb most attacks.

We could end up in 9th due to the issues with the manager at Leicester, but we need to get back to winning ways.

You need to double check that possibility. I am sure it has been confirmed only seven EPL will make it through to European tournaments whatever the permutations.

But eight would be better, although some think that will result in less money being made available for transfers.

I think it’s pretty obvious you can’t work on a trust basis with these clowns
I don’t blame rafa for getting every detail in writing. I’d want it in blood from them.
I hope him signing is due to a sale being in place as we will never be free of this heartless behaviour until this regime has gone. It’s obvious that if they invest everything earnt into rafa and his plan we cannot go backwards imho. You’d think they could see that too. Meanwhile we rumble on as per usual.

Announced this morning – Slimani banned for 3 games – his appeal against excessive punishment failed.

    http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/discipline

Get him shipped out pronto – what a waste of time and effort. I noted in the game against West Brom when things didn’t go right for him – he started a windmill routine – waving his arms around etc etc – in a static position instead of chasing the ball/play.

Tuff, that’s the last we’ll see of him. Not sure Rafa ever fancied him anyway, when he got his chance he didn’t really cover himself in glory and then did something stupid.

Remember when it seemed like top strikers used to grow on trees and we could just have our pick? Cole, Shearer, Ferdinand, Beardsley, Ferguson, Owen (yes, I know it didn’t work out but we were all excited when he arrived), even Cisse and Ba.

I’d probably donate a body part to get one of their ilk over the line now. Just don’t ask me to commit to which one.

Rob – might be a blessing in disguise – Slimani showing his true credentials early on – so we don’t waste time and effort trying to keep him.

Club needs to ship him out pronto – although NUFC will probably keep him at the club and play him in the last game.

    Asprilla, Martins, Viduka, Kluivert

OK, scrap the last two, but they were both cracking strikers in their day and show what quality we could attract when we tried.

Some duffers, too – Paul Dalglish, Andreas Anderson, Alex Mathie for a few.

… and for your next lesson let’s work on some arithmetic so

    3 match ban

    3 fixtures left

which one can banned player play in

No clues – Ok make it easier it’s not the last one 🙂

Do EUFA still have the fair play draw too for a Europa League place? Not that I expect us to be in that particular pot. I remember when it was still the EUFA cup we managed to snag a spot from that draw. If memory serves that was when Bobby Robson first took over, and we have been fighting relegation earlier in the season.

Well Slimani was only marginally better than Sturridge in the end and Joselu has run out of matches as well to show what he can do.
You can almost see the logic in signing Andy Carrol back as he knows what’s expected, loves the shirt, can head the ball into the net (others take note) and score with his feet (others take note) . Somewhat depends on Ashley giving Rafa the money to make sure that we have the medical and fitness staff to get him fully fit again.

Rafa’s new contract is going to be quite long and detailed to set the club on course for the next seven year plan.

With reference to my last post, I think we actually got in by virtue of the Intertwobob cup? We got there after a mediocre league finish anyway, via a fair play draw.

The relevant paragraph for those with learning
    difficulties (Jail)
If Arsenal finish sixth and win the Europa League the team that finishes eighth will enter the Europa League next season.
That could potentially be a number of different teams, but Everton or Leicester City appear best placed to benefit in that event.

I think we played Troyes, a Belgian team, and a German team. I remember the German team had a Norwegian midfielder called ‘Mykland'(I think) who was the spitting dabs of the Bass player from Spinal Tap.

    Whereas the BBC say,
“If Arsenal win the Europa League, they will qualify for the Champions League, and only two English sides will enter the Europa League as no more than seven clubs from each country can compete in Europe.”

    https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/football/43402150

I do not know who is right, but we will surely find out soon enough.
