Rafa’s Decision Makes Surprise Signing Possible

Islam Slimani did not have a good time of it at Newcastle.

He arrived injured and couldn’t play for two months.

And then when he played Rafa said it would take time for him to assimilate into the way Newcastle play the game.

After making only four appearances with one start, Slimani was banned for the remaining three games of the season after foolishly lashing out at West Brom defender Dawson with ten minutes to go last Saturday.

Islam Slimani – staying for last week on Tyneside

There’s not much sympathy for Slimani, and he will agree that nothing much went for him in his three months on Tyneside.

Since he cannot play again, we fully expected him to return to Leicester City, but Rafa is keeping him at Newcastle until the end of the season.

That could be to give him more time to impress in training and maybe the manager has seen something in him.

But it’s still highly unlikely Rafa will want him permanently in the summer.

But there is a chance we could get him on a season-long loan with an option to buy next summer.

Newcastle are paying his wages, so they far better keep the player on Tyneside and Rafa can have another week to see him in training.

It’s still doubtful Rafa will want him permanently or on loan next season.

Slimani cannot be feeling too good about things at the moment, and it’s also good man-management from Rafa.

In Rafa I trust but the fact he kicked out at the player for no massive reason will probably do him no good.

We have seen with Mitro that Rafa wants players on the pitch and not in the dressing room before 90 mins have ended.

It all depends on how much Rafa is allowed to spend…..

Too long we have made do and mend with our strike force. Needs quality players in this position as we are all too aware.

Slimani knew what he was dong when he kicked out. He probably had his bags packed and ready for his hols but Rafa’s put the kybosh on that by making him stay and train.

I’m not really convinced about the injury that delayed his debut and wonder whether he wanted to be at SJP in the first place.

And to think that Mitro wasn’t a good player for lashing out at others !
