If Mike Ashley does not tie down Rafa Benitez to a long-term deal this summer that will be the end of Rafa at Newcastle – but it will also be the end of Mike Ashley and his unseemly eleven years of ownership.
We just don’t fully understand why Mike Ashley will not do what Rafa wants – say for a couple of years at most.
Then he can sell the club for a lot more than the £400M he wants for the club at the moment.
But Ashley has rarely done the right thing for the club and if Rafa leaves it will be the end of Mike Ashley with Newcastle fans.
Mike Ashley – Newcastle stubborn and unpopular owner
This is the best chance we have of Newcastle becoming a great side again – to keep Rafa at Newcastle – and if the owner throws that opportunity away – it will be tragic.
Fans don’t seem to be too confident that Ashley will do the right thing for Rafa and for the Newcastle United club this summer.
Here are some tweets from our fans.
Has there ever been a bigger liar in the world other than Mike Ashley? I think not. The man is the spawn of Satan. #nufc

Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley are the two top people at our club.
It’s took them nearly 3 weeks to still not give Rafa Benitez assurances about the clubs future and refuse to break the club record, which was last broke 13 years ago.
GET OUT OF OUR CLUB. #NUFC
— CompleteNUFC (@CompleteNUFC) May 7, 2018
You have to expect that with #rafa and #nufc being in London from Tuesday that talks with Mike Ashley will take place which will make or break #transfers or if he extends his contract…
— Andrew Davis (@andrew14ad) May 7, 2018
Get sick of speculation everytime transfer window or end of season comes. If Ashley wanted things sorted he would do what is right get it done. We all want Rafa to stay but can see him going because things drag on false promises. Best thing since sir Bobby sort it now #nufc
— Steve (@stevemagpie4) May 7, 2018
I’m not an Ashley fan but where is Staveley? If she was serious about buying the club it would have been done and dusted even at the new asking price. Can’t help feeling it was one big publicity stunt driven by ego. Hope I’m wrong! #nufc
— Catherine Johnston (@catjo1892) May 7, 2018
What have all toon fans done in a past life to deserve to be stuck with a fat, greedy, unambitious, treacherous sack of shite like Ashley? Hope Rafa stays but his patience must be starting to run out now, imagine having to try and deal with those boardroom clowns ! #NUFC
— JAMES NUFC 1977 (@JPCurrey) May 7, 2018
Ashley’s ambition for #nufc does not and never will match that of Rafa or the fans. He’s not going to have a change of heart. Rafa can never have a long term future here under Ashley.
— Stuart Rain (@swrain79) May 7, 2018
I don’t know about you, #NUFC fans, but I’m already sick of it. The newspapers trumpeting on about Rafa challenging Ashley to share his ambition for the club. We all know that our owner’s only ambition is to make money and, where football is concerned, he is utterly brainless.
— David Taylor (@David_Taylor33) May 7, 2018
Not expecting anything from these Rafa v Ashley talks other than no capital outlay. We’ve had no ambition from the fat cockney wanker in 10 years and that isn’t going to change #nufc
— Neil Hindson (@NeilHindson) May 7, 2018
Ashley, when faced with the opportunity to do right by #NUFC and display sporting ambition will always choose the wrong path.

Amanda’s not there at 400m or even 350 !!!!!!! No one will be. Ashley is a dispicably greedy self serving oaf who will never do the right thing by NUFC. As KK said, the club will never achieve anything under Ashley. Maybe it will take doing a Sunderland to ever rid ourselves of him.

Comment #2It could have been an “extras” problem. You know, like when you buy a car and find that it’s not so cheap after all because to get decent functionality and use out of it you have to shell out for stuff to add on.
Stavely and the crew might have rocked up with a £250-300m price tag bandied about but on getting down to the dirty details found that if they wanted merchandising, catering, club image rights, advertising …it was going to be extra, sorry. Not included in the base deal. Nope.
Nostradamus – you say she’s a publicity seeker but then wonder why she’s keeping silent on the whole thing? Errrrrr…….

Comment #5i suspect that Ashley and Rafa have already agreed to all intents and purposes that sufficient funding will be made available to be able to have a decent crack at top 8 next season.

Comment #6One of the reasons the squad remained in the Home counties
until Wednesday at Wembley is probably so Rafa and Mike can

Comment #13In the unthinkable event that we do finish up with Rafa leaving, don’t despair. Ashley’s past records proves that he’ll come up with a great replacement. There’s a treasure chest of available managers that he could, and would chose from, and surprise us all. Apart from the usual suspects there’s the likes of,Glenn Roeder, De Boer, David Platt, Slavin Bilic, Dave Jones,Terry Butcher, Mike Phelan, and most suitable of all Paul Merson. All is not lost!! 🙁

Comment #17I funding materialise, Jane, it will prove that funding has materialised. You would have to add a whole host of finer details to that to construct your theory properly and not leaving it looking as facetious as it currently is.

Comment #24Mark Douglas:
“It looks like a garden shed and sits in the middle of the training ground car park.
“Newcastle United’s scouting hub – built last year to give the recruitment team a permanent base at the Magpies’ training ground – might represent progress of sorts but it’s also a little bit sad when you see it.
“OK, it’s about the ideas expressed and information shared in that room rather than having plush fixtures and fittings. The odd picture of his family, dogs and an Apple Mac filled with player clips aside, Rafa Benitez’s office is fairly sparse and you get the impression he likes it that way. But the ‘scouting shed’ really is a shed – and it still represents something rather jarring when you see how the rest of the Premier League is investing the riches banked during this era of unprecedented TV cash.”

Comment #28Rafa has been brilliant for us this season.Got the worst team in the league to mid table.
But we all know it will end in tears. It always does at Newcastle.
Cashley to Charmless ” Just tell him whatever but put nothing on paper and when those 52k muppets, I mean supporters, are all signed up then pull the rug. And thank Amanda for her help in the big con. I get 100 million from Sky alone. Only true muppets would ever think I am going to give that up.”
Charmless ” But is the club up for sale or not boss?”
Cashley ” Of course it is but I am not selling. As long as the muppets stay so am I.”
Rafa to see out his contract and we will survive another relegation fight with him. Then its free fall time with Pardew back in charge.
It aint no joke.

Comment #32I find it encouraging that the parties involved
aren’t rushing into an agreement.
Rafa’s lot took 5 months to thrash out a contract
extension at LPool.
If it’s worth doing it’s worth taking time over it.
Don’t forget the transfer window opens a week on Thursday
and I bet these negotiations go right to that wire.
