Good Move – Rafa Ready To Move Quickly For Experienced Defender

West Brom are now relegated after Southampton’s 1-0 win against Swansea last night.

And it seems Newcastle are ready to move quickly for West Brom’s experienced center-back Craig Dawson.

The 6ft 2ins tall defender joined West Brom way back in 2010 from Rochdale, and he has played every season since then in the Premier League.

So he has vast experience and only just turned 28 years old last Sunday.

But Newcastle will only be one of several clubs after Dawson’s services for next season.

But the Mail are reporting that Newcastle are likely to be the first club in for the £15M rated defender, who will add the experience that’s been missing from the Newcastle side this season.

Craig Dawson – in action at St. James’ Park in late April

This would be a good chance for Mike Ashley to help Rafa move quickly to tie up Dawson, and if the owner does that, it will definitely help us sign Rafa to a new extended deal.

Jonny Evans is another West Bromwich defender who will also be available and in high demand, and he seems to have a relegation release clause of £3M in his contract.

That would seem to be a better value than paying out £15M for Dawson, but other clubs may also be close to signing up Evans.

And it depends how Rafa rates the two experienced defenders.

Craig played 15 times for the England U21 side and 3 times for Great Britain in the 2012 Olympic  Games in London.

Rochdale-born Dawson has played 179 games for West Brom with 12 goals and 8 assists.

I think I must be confusing this guy with someone as I thought he was about 36!! Doesn’t exactly get the heart racing, especially for the price and the fact he’s just been relegated, but maybe Rafa sees something there.

Luiz and Kenedy please, then a PL standard goal scorer and Traore.

Dawson is a good defender I guess he would be taking Mbemba’s place in the squad ?

Dawson can also play like a defensive Right Back so similar to Dummett on the left side

Rotunda do you mean Luiz, Chelsea’s defender? Would surely cost a bomb? Guys is tramore a left or right winger? I thought we wanted kenedy on left? Would like traore…. Have been saying for some time that Rafa will go for more pace. Will suit his control and compact approach with pace on break. Let’s hope he can find a central striker with power and pace.

Interesting that Rafa seems to be realising that the budget is for both Ashley to define and him to work within, and seems OK with it? His commercial reality approach will appeal to Ashley and maybe it might allow him more youth on the fringes too which Rafa will enjoy developing. Re tonight, we need a performance. I reckon we can get something from the game. Quietly confident.

When the transfer merry go round starts and from a football perspective of who’s the manager ?, what’s the fan base ? and where’s the best place for my career ? then Newcastle has to be the top priority for players unless they are offered a starting place and the money that goes with it at a top six position club. Outside of that cabal then we should be in pole position as other maybe contenders such as Everton, West Ham and maybe Palace for Lundun lovers are clubs fraught with more problems than we are.

Additionally if the suggested new Academy and Training Ground developments are realised by Ashley or others investing in NUFC then the Club, City and lifestyle for players and their families is their best choice.

In this scenario then the likes of Craig Dawson who has had some great reviews all season could be an astute signing along with Traore and a few more including Dubrovka and Kennedy who has done much to show others how good the set up is here.

Love Dawson, not just because of his experience but he scores goals from corners, we don’t score many from corners, so having this added threat would be great for the club.
