Benitez Lines Up Move For 25-Year-Old Prolific Striker

The Sun are reporting that Newcastle are interested in 25-year-old Bundesliga striker Niclas Fullkrug who plays for Hannover 96.

He’s attracting interest because he has scored 13 goals and 3 assists in 33 appearances in the Bundesliga this season.

Leicester City are also interested plus some other Premier League clubs.

The 6ft 2ins tall striker is thought to have a chance of making the Germany World Cup side in the summer in Russia.

His transfer fee is said to be £4.5M, which seems low, but this could be a potential bargain buy for Benitez.

Other clubs the Sun is reporting are interested include Watford, Wolves, Cardiff, Aston Villa and Wolfsburg.

With a number of clubs interested it looks like he could bring up to £8M.

He joined Hanover two years ago from FC Nuremberg and has played 64 times with 20 goals and 6 assists.

And while at Nuremberg for a couple of seasons he played 59 games with 18 goals and 11 assists.

The striker has played for the German U20 side and he is a versatile player who can play on either wing or up front as a striker.

Whether Newcastle will go after him will depend on whether he has the right character and temperament and whether Rafa rates the German striker – but it’s possible we could go after him.

He seems fairly good value at up to £8M.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I agree we will need to move Mitro and Gayle on but Joselu must go too. That may give Armstrong & Toney a chance.
I see Woodman has not played for Aberdeen since the international break , so that loan move hasn’t really benefitted anyone.

So if as Ed reckons we move on Gayle and Mitro for £35m then why persevere with Joselu, surely he need to carry Gayle’s bags back to Stoke. He’s filling up a space on the bench that would be better given to a new face or even Armstrong ?
And Ings is not the future.
Joregnson is an unknown quantity and I can’t help feeling that we need to secure a young dynamic striker who is poised for greatness but as yet is not so well known. Who that is and how you secure him I have no idea but hope that Rafa and Steve Nickerson do. We shall see.

Ed – that was a quick reply. Fullkrug it is then.

Everyone knows we need a striker or two so we’re going to be linked with absolutely every striker transfer that happens in England, I can’t say I’m particularly excited by anyone that we’ve been linked with so far. Would love to see our U23’s getting a chance but it’s a big risk not investing in “a proven” goal scorer

Back to last night’s discussion about Perez. I do think he will stay as a squad player but we definitely need more quality and consistency in his position if we are looking to improve.

In my opinion to be a main striker, as is being suggested as his best position , it reguires someone with powerful, accurate dead ball shooting ability and not someone who relies on diverting balls goal-ward even though he has some very skilful deft touches.

    Having fun betty!? 🙂

On Perez, in my opinion his best position is as a second striker, he’s not quite a no.10 and definitely not a no.9, he’s useful and still learning but as you say at the moment he’s only a squad player next season .. if we have a good window

13 goals in 33 appearances is “Prolific”?
I think someone needs to invest in a dictionary
    those are mediocre numbers.
Even Facundo Ferrerya would be a better option than this dude

Also Ed always seems to quote the height of strikers when promoting them on this blog
I think this shows a glaring lack of understanding of Rafa’s approach to the game
which favours mobile , hardworking , versatile strikers who can convert into extra midfielders when Newcastle is out of possession
    Being 6ft 10 means nothing.
If size or physicality were Rafa’s main criterion for choosing strikers, Mitrovic would be the first name on the team sheet and Slimani would be our #1 target.

I also think Perez should be tried out as our main striker supported by a proper #10
Its very hard to find an affordable world class striker in the market.
And Perez has never really gotten his chance as the spearhead of our attack
    he is a lovely player
another testament to the excellent scouting work of Graham Carr

A proper number 9 should be able to score all types of goals and not get shoved off the ball .

I like so many of us do wonder where we might have finished if we had a 10 – 15 goal striker from the start of the season. All hypothetical I know but it does make you wonder. I believe a number 9 and 10 would transform us, I like Perez some of the time but he is a little light weight at times and can be very frustrating.
Who we can get I,m not sure but I,ll wager Rafa has a shortlist, if we can get them over the line soon as along with a couple of others we may have a relaxing summer…..but there again this is the Toon

I thought Lejeune was outstanding last night, really lovely move when he set Murphy away for his chance, beat a couple of players and hit a lovely forward ball. Reminded me of Phillipe Albert. He has a similar partnership with Lascelles as Albert had with Darren Peacock – one enforcer, one ball player. Very well balanced, I’m looking forward to the pair of them growing together.

Yes, Slimani’s been a complete waste of money – a product of Ashley’s lies and short-sightedness, a Barnes’ take it or leave it option for Rafa to deal with.

We are not far short of a top 6-8 side. I think our position belies the strength Rafa has built into the team with that defensive unit and an in-cobtrol keeper. We’ve always needed a player who does what Diame does, Cheick – bless him – was a wrecking ball but Diame does that job with more precision. Shelvey with a good forward line would bag us dozens more goals a season, how any England manager couldn’t think of plugging him into the squad is mind boggling.

Yesterday again we had the players running forward and Shelvey could spot them like a hawk – they just aren’t up to the standard to finish them off.

And considering his health issues on top of running his website, I think you’re being very disrespectful to him. I think Ed is owed an apology.
