In the Striker Department – It’s Two Out And Two In

Rafa will almost certainly try to bring in tow strikers this summer as we again saw last night some poor finishing from the Newcastle side.

Dwight Gayle was again the main culprit missing two good chances, and Jacob Murphy also wasted an excellent opportunity when clean through.

But this is not new it’s been Newcastle’s Achilles heel ever since Rafa came to the club on March 11th, 2016.

Rafa will sell both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle this summer, and he should get some good money for the two strikers.

6ft 3ins Danish striker Nicolai Jorgensen

Mitro could go for something north of £20M, and the Stoke Sentinel have reported the Potters want Dwight Gayle.

Dwight will be in big demand from top Championship clubs after scoring a magnificent 23 goals for us in 34 appearances last season.

Maybe Dwight cannot score many goals in the Premier League, but he’s lethal in the Championship, and we could get up to £15M for him.

And Newcastle then need to bring in two good strikers.

Rafa will not bother trying to sign Islam Slimani during the summer but could well go back for his number one choice in January – Feyenoord’s 6ft 3ins Danish striker Nicolai Jorgensen.

And if he does go back then owner Mike Ashley will need to pay out the bucks to bring in the 27-year-old and not spend months negotiating a fee with the Dutch club.

One of Rafa’s other targets in January was 25-year-old Liverpool striker Danny Ings.

But the question is does he want to leave the Red and manager Jurgen Klopp seems to be a fan of the former Burnley striker.

Rafa will also try to bring in some goalscoring wingers and will attempt to sign Chelsea’s Kenedy permanently.

Rafa has brought the best out of the Brazilian this year but under Rafa’s guidance Robert Kenedy can become even better – and the 22-year-old already knows that!

Would we have drawn with – or even beaten – Spurs last night if Slimani had been available?

I don’t know if Jorgie is what we need. Dutch strikers etc… And little pace that I can see. I know he can be a target man but would like someone with more pace to give us easier out balls if needed.

I think Slimani would have had a field day with
the stuff that was flying into the box.
This situation is weird for a long time supporter
    of the Toon.
In the past the one thing the club has rarely been
    short of is sensational strikers

Imo Shelvey gave a performance of outstanding vision and ability, I cannot remember another player for a long time passing with that quality, some of his passing was breathtaking, nobody in the game can spray a ball about like him at times, man management by Rafa is top class with this fella, it’s a pity our two up front door not have that bit extra quality, we could have been two to the good easily

So if as Ed reckons we move on Gayle and Mitro for £35m then why persevere with Joselu, surely he need to carry Gayle’s bags back to Stoke. He’s filling up a space on the bench that would be better given to a new face or even Armstrong ?
And Ings is not the future.
Joregnson is an unknown quantity and I can’t help feeling that we need to secure a young dynamic striker who is poised for greatness but as yet is not so well known. Who that is and how you secure him I have no idea but hope that Rafa and Steve Nickerson do. We shall see.

this is the most ridiculous post ive seen all year
Gayle is going nowhere. I guarantee that!
He is a sound back up striker and will only get better with time

You’re right about us usually having decent strikers but we’ve never had a defence as competent and organised as what we’ve got now! That should make it easy for Rafa if Ashley gives him 50 or 60 million (net)!
