Newcastle could have won this game last night at Wembley if only we could have taken some of the chances we created.
Jonjo Shelvey had an excellent game and hit the post.
But poor Dwight Gayle missed two golden opportunities to score, and we will probably see the striker leave the club this summer for a top Championship club.
We need a top striker brought in, and Mike Ashley needs to support Rafa with significant funds in doing that.
And yes – the fee will break our measly record of around £17M we paid Real Madrid for Michael Owen 13 long years ago.
That was before there were iPhones and Twitter.
Rafa Benitez – wondering why the Gods were against us last night
We probably need a couple of good strikers brought on.
This is how Benitez responded when asked if we need a top striker brought in this summer:
“Yes,” “We know that we need to keep the same team spirit, the same mentality, the same commitment from all these players.”
“And add a little bit more quality to help and be sure that in these kinds of games you take your chances and win the games.”
“We had some good chances and especially we created enough situations to have even more chances with the final pass in the final third,”
“But that is the reason why the Premier League is so difficult. They have maybe one good chance and score a goal.”
The good news is if we can get a couple of good strikers in this team we will win a lot more games next season.
The rest of the side has become reasonably robust and will have a lot more experience next season.
And as we showed last night against a top side, we do create a lot of chances.
