Benitez Seems So Upbeat On Newcastle’s Season – It’s Great For Everyone

It’s been a tough season for fans with Newcastle up and down in our results all season long and that is due to the inexperience of the side and we have one of the youngest squads in the Premier League.

But the team has been very much up this year until we reached 41 points and safety and slumped to four successive defeats.

But if somebody said last August said we would be a little unhappy that we have lost four games in a row at this stage of the season and may blow 10th place – we would have taken it and been delighted.

Rafa Benitez – fans over the moon with this season

It looked in mid-December like we would be fighting relegation down to the final game – but we pulled away with four successive wins taking us from 29 points to 41 points.

🙂

So we cannot grumble – and we won’t.

This is what Rafa has said on nufcTV following Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat at Wembley on Wednesday night against Tottenham.

The manager then goes on to talk about what has been a successful season against all the odds:

“I’m sure they will be really pleased with the performance of the team, the effort of the players, the way we were playing.”

“And then the final pass or accuracy in front of goal is something you cannot change in one minute,”

“But at least we had the chances to do something and I think they’ll be proud of the performance.”

“It was a great performance. The team was doing really well, we had 14 attempts away against one of the top four, so overall it was a very good display.”

“We were doing our best to be there, after you have to make the right decision, but you have to give credit to our players for being there and playing so well.”

“Against one of the teams at the top of the table, we deserved so much more.”

“The fans have to be over the moon with this season.”

“Nobody was expecting we could be at this moment in the season just trying to win games because we wanted to be proud of our season.”

“We are really proud of our season, it is a real pity we haven’t won any of the last four games, but we will try to in the last one.”

“We knew it was difficult at this time to play against these teams (Tottenham and Chelsea) who have to fight for qualification for the Champions League,”

“But it’s what we have. The good thing is that we are safe, but even better that we were safe with five games ago – and that means it is great for everyone.”

“I said before I want to finish as high as possible, but for me 10th or ninth, it doesn’t change my life.”

Newcastle were unlucky on Wednesday night and in retrospect, we could even have won some games we have lost this season.

Newcastle will be a much better side next season if we can get one or two proven strikers into the club this summer – we have missed so many chances this season.

And remember the difficult thing is to create the chances and we seem to be able to do that on a regular basis.
