Newcastle Likely Will Announce First Signing Of The Summer Next Week

It’s no secret that Rafa Benitez wants to bring some new players into Newcastle early in the summer.

We have an option to buy Martin Dubravka for €4M after his loan deal expires, and we think Rafa will announce he will take up that option very soon after Sunday.

Martin has been in top form for us in the 11 games he has played for Newcastle after he came in on loan in the final hours of the January transfer window.

Martin Dubravka – made a big difference at Newcastle

And what a bargain this player looks to be and he’s being monitored by other clubs because of his outstanding goalkeeping for the Magpies.

Here’s what Martin has said as reported in the Chronicle today:

“The fans are giving us so much energy,”

“At Wembley you could hear them. I’m so happy they are supporting us in each stadium. They travel a lot.”

“I really hope that we will put the same attitude in as against Tottenham. It was much better than against Watford. I really hope we will bring the same attitude.”

“We will see what’s going to happen after the last game.”

Newcastle are in danger of blowing a top ten finish having lost our last four games.

The good news is we have an excellent chance of finishing in 10th place if we can beat Chelsea on Sunday.

That would be a great way of finishing the season.

We have won our final games in the previous two seasons under Rafa – taking Tottenham apart 5-1 two years ago and beating Barnsley 3-0 last year – both games at home.

We need to keep that record going on Sunday to avoid a disappointing end to what has been a successful season.

And expect Rafa to announce quickly he will pick up the option to buy Martin Dubravka permanently – that will be a perfect start to the summer transfer window.

If it’s only sly digs on Merson’s drinking habits then we’re lucky…

What was it GT said last night…there’s plenty of xenophobic language on here and old man thinking…

To be fair to Merson, he probably fancies a Newcastle win but is struggling to justify it in terms of Newcastle’s form so chose to focus on Chelsea’s wayward attitude instead.

2-1 to the Toon, late winner by Joselu to mark the end of his Toon career.

The speed with which we seal the deal for Dubravka will show us a number of things. He won’t sign until Rafa has done likewise, we won’t sign him until the budget has been agreed and released and it will also suggest that one of the other keepers has been sold, unless there is a change to Ashley’s one out, one in policy.

Good call Merson. I think we’ll probably get a draw, though. Chelsea has two teams. Kenedy was not even close and he did well for us.

But their magician, Hazard, may be rested and he is the best player in the PL.

Good arguments but not sure I agree with your first point.

Put yourself in his place. Consider the league he came from and the contract he’d be offered and the prestige of playing in the PL.

A half decent contract, even with JFK as manager, he’d bite your hand off.

    And I wouldn’t blame him.

cyprus, I appreciate where you’re coming from, but he wouldn’t have to come here to play Premier League football next season, he’ll have plenty of offers if he were to turn us down. He’s now proven in this league and arguably could earn more elsewhere with a less stringent wage structure. It’s all speculation and opinion, however.
