Rafa Could Leave Newcastle – But Not For This Club

There will be some top clubs after Rafa Benitez if he cannot come to some agreement with Mike Ashley and sign a long-term deal to stay at Newcastle.

It doesn’t look like he will leave Newcastle this summer whatever happens, but clubs like West Ham will be very keen to sign him if the Newcastle owner does not agree to his demands.

His “demands” are things he wants to happen to make Newcastle into a force in the Premier League and Europe.

And if there is no agreement reached then look at clubs like West Ham and Leicester making a move to  pry the 58-year-old Spanish manager away from Newcastle – this summer.

Rafa Benitez – at worst would probably see out his contract

There are reports that Everton are interested in him since they are likely to let Sam Allardyce leave this summer.

But there’s no way Rafa would join Everton after his successful six-year reign at rivals Liverpool.

He would never do that,  even though the location would be extremely convenient to be near his family in the Wirral, Cheshire.

Newcastle under Mike Ashley can’t seem to do anything quickly and hopefully, these negotiations will not drag on and on this summer.

Rafa is keen to get busy on transfers and wants to work alongside Lee Charnley as the two of them can hopefully get the money to significantly improve Newcastle;e’s team this summer.

That’s the hope for fans, but the problem with that is owner Mike Ashley – who’s been a drag on the club for eleven years now.

But life goes on.

Hearing Rafa pre-match press conference he is prepared to work right through the summer with no holiday. Some early transfer activity would be fantastic, but the hash tag #dontsignuntilrafasigns is right although a bit long winded!

    Jib,
While he’s still here we’re going to continually getting headlines like the one above.

If Rafa leaves, all hell will break loose. I hope every fan should make their voices heard and force MA to sell this club. This club will not progress under his ownership

However, it is the lack of anything tangible that creates the space for spurious gossip.

If Ashley could give Rafa net budget of £50 Million.
Then combined with the Mitro sale he would have £65-£70 million this summer to spend
    I think we need
    1. A back up left back for Dummet
    2. A top notch No 10
    3. A back up Defensive midfielder
    4. A fast pacey winger like Jonathan Bamba
    5. Dubravka
6 A new striker -preferably a wing forward like Sturridge (not Sturridge though.. too injury prone)

Is £70 million enough to cover all that? Not so sure

#7 – all hell will break loose ? No it wont im afraid , it will be same old same old. People will buy their season tickets and fill out the ground every game. Yes they will come on forums like this and talk the talk. I am just hoping the tv money is made available to Rafa.
Why is it that every pre season is doom and gloom and uncertainty ?

    Too brother

Are you sure about endorsing Jiblet’s post @3?

Yes, ordinarily jaw jaw’s better than war war but in this case, Charley’s Ashley’s first line representative in discussions with Rafa and you could be reasonably confident that Charnley has no or very little scope to negotiate anything. Charnley’d need to refer to Barnes who’ll have more but not complete authority to endorse any proposals without Ashley’s agreement. In reality, Ashley’s probably structured his representation to delay and frustrate Rafa and his reps in much the same way as he deals with the charade of bidding for players.

How the hell you can agree that serious negotiations are taking place beats me. And how the hell you can even endorse Jiblets when we all know he’s up to his usual trick of being controversial. In saying that, a lot of his recent posts have made me wonder whether he’s deliberately playing the fool or has lost or is losing what ability he had to think things through before rushing in like a bull in a china shop – as he has been of late.

Ashley can see that Rafa’s going public with his hopes for the club’s future and in my view, he’s doing that to make sure that Ashley hears them before they’re distorted by Charnley, Barnes and Bishop. Ashley has no excuse for standing back and if was genuinely interested in bringing Rafa on side, he would intervene and talk to him.
