One Change – Strong Newcastle Side For Chelsea Test

Rafa Benitez has just named the Newcastle team for the final game of the season at home to 5th to Chelsea – who are 2 points behind Liverpool in 4th place.

For Chelsea to finish 4th top, this will have to win today, and Liverpool lose at home to Brighton – since their goal difference is a lot worse than that of Liverpool.

Chelsea will be motivated today to win this game.

Rafa has made one change to the side that played well at Wembley on Wednesday night bringing in Jacob Murphy for Kenedy who cannot play against his own club.

Jacob Murphy – gets a start today

For Newcastle today, all 3 points will most likely mean we will finish in 10th place and the upper half of the table for the first time since 2014.

If we win, only Crystal Palace can finish higher than us by beating already relegated West Brom and ending up with a better goal difference.

Finishing 10th would also be only the 3rd time that Newcastle have finished in the top half of the Premier League in the eleven years the club has been owned by Mike Ashley.

And here’s an excellent message from our sponsor FUN88 – at the end of the season:

Geordies,

We’ve had the pleasure of sponsoring your great club for a full season now and everyone at FUN88 would like you all to know how much we’ve loved it.

The ups and downs, the late winners, the roar from the Gallowgate, Rafa tucking his glasses into his pocket after a win, the unwavering support from the terraces.

It’s been a season we’ll never, ever forget.

We can’t wait to do it all over again next season. In the Premier League. Where Newcastle United belong.

Haidara is going to need to come off the bench, shackle Moses, then run up the pitch and plant one in the top corner… if this isn’t to be his last game.

    Giroud’s the danger man.
Much underrated and a good test for our CBs.

No youngsters on bench, as I predicted, pity as there’s nothing to lose by given at least one of them a run out.

Is it just me or is that the most defensive bench for a good while?

Going for it from the start then shutting up shop?

Dunno, bringing on Fernandez rather than Joselu could have been a match winner!

Late farewell send offs for Haidara and Gamez. Absence of Kenedy (can’t play against parent club) and Atsu (injury)….so bench picked itself.

I suppose if we are looking at it like you say, then that’s the cost of two new strikers! 🙂

exactly , extra 2m for every position you finish higher.
so sad as we’ll need every penny with ashley and the last 3 games were all very winnable.

I have not heard of Mbemba being injured and am assuming he will transferred in the close season. So his absence would sort of indicate Rafa not happy with him. Oh well.

Been meaning to ask you: did your Rune you created and sent to Rafa have a time or points limit on it? It worked amazingly well there for most of 2nd half of season until we went over 40 pts and then magic seemed to dissipate…?

Strong side don’t make me laugh
It’s one of many in the epl who make up the numbers for the top six to occasionally give them a game on there way to winning titles and cups
