Keith Downie of Sky Sports is confirming that Rafa Benitez is ready to make Slovakian goalkeeper Martin Dubravka his first signing of the summer transfer window.
It was almost a no-brainer for Rafa after Dubravka has been superb for us since he arrived on loan from Sparta Prague.
Even on Sunday in the second half against Chelsea, he made two terrific second-half saves to preserve the clean sheet.
They report that Dubravka has an option to buy clause in his contract for £4m once the transfer window opens.
Martin Dubravka – bargain buy at £4M
The Premier League transfer window will open this year on Thursday, May 17 – almost a month earlier than previously – so he can become a Newcastle player in two days.
We would expect an announcement about Martin to be issued on Thursday and wonder if Rafa has other signings lined up to be announced soon?
Newcastle would have only had to agree on personal terms for the goalkeeper and he will have done himself a lot of good with his performances for us this year.
Newcastle should also get to know before the end of the week exactly how much we will be getting from the Premier League and it looks like it’s a whopping £125M.
That’s a lot better than the £47M we got from the Championship and Premier League last May.
In fact, it’s £78M more than last year.
