The Mail are reporting that Newcastle are one of the club interested in signing Schalke’s German U21 forward Donis Avdijaj.
Schalke are ready to sell the 21-year-old twice capped Kosovo international for as little as £2.5M this summer.
Avdijaj was a top teenager thought to be a budding star, but he has not played well on loan at Sturm Graz and Roda, and Schalke are now ready to sell him.
If Newcastle are really interested, then it means that Rafa has seen the talent in the youngster and he thinks he can get the best out of him at Newcastle.
Schalke’s German U21 forward Donis Avdijaj
At £2.5M it’s a low-risk proposition for Newcastle with the player becoming a free agent next summer.
Avdijaj played for all the German Youth sides though U21 but then made his International debut for Kosovo.
This seems like an opportunity for Benitez to get a player who has class but had had a poor time of it for a couple of years.
We’ll have to wait and see if there’s real interest from the Magpies but if there is it seems a low-risk proposition for the club.
He’s played only 12 times for the Schalke first team with 2 goals.
