This should have been an exciting time for Newcastle fans with the club raking in £123M from the Premier League yesterday and Rafa Benitez all ready to have a busy transfer window.
Mike Ashley’s aim last January was to sign up Rafa to a new deal but as we have found out with Ashley – nothing is ever easy, and he’s also stubborn.
This is now the end of the fourth week of negotiations with Rafa’s representatives to get him to sign a new deal, but nothing has happened.
It always looked like David Moyes would not stay at West Ham and that the Hammers would really like to sign Rafa.
Mike Ashley
Both West Ham Chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan are in some trouble with their fans after some poor results this season and the team fighting relegation.
That was even more reason they would go after Rafa who is a favorite with Hammers’ fans, and they have.
Not only that but it looks like they will be willing to give Rafa all he asks for in London.
If we lose Rafa Benitez to West Ham – the dream is over, and it’s that man Mike Ashley responsible again.
He has been a complete and utter disaster for the club.
And it appears even when he (says he) wants to sell up and leave the club he seems to be making sure our future is ruined before he finally leaves.
He needs to get Rafa signed up quickly.

Comment #1did we ever agree how the contracts of Managers work and if they are subject to the same rules as players? Specifically, if they have not agreed a contract prior to the January before their current deal expires, are they then entitled to speak with other clubs freely? If so, January may well be Ashley’s self-imposed deadline for getting this situation sorted whether we like it or not.

Comment #3Ed, with due respect, West Ham haven’t made contact with Rafa or his people. They need permission to speak to him because he’s under contract and that hasn’t happened yet. This is all smoke and mirrors from those slimy people at London United to appease the restless natives. (Unlike our owner who simply couldn’t give a toss about restless natives). If Rafa is their top target they’re going a strange way about things. It helps to talk to your top target I reckon!
Their manager is sorted – and it ain’t Rafa.

Comment #5What joy it would bring to wipe that smug, sneering smirk off that face.
The guy has been the bane of my life for the last 11 years. I know Ash will always have a place in Jib’s heart but for most people he has brought nothing but misery, fan unrest and total disillusionment, almost to the point of thinking what exactly is the point any more. No interest in promotiong us or selling us. What an awful scenario for both the manager and supporters alike. If only Staveley had had a little more faith in Rafa.

Comment #6Rob, they need permission to talk to Rafa, but they would get permission because of his release clause. That basically means, they haven’t even contacted him yet – despite being ready to announce their new manager. Nuff said really.

Comment #11Think Bas Dost will be odds on to leave Sporting now…anyone else see the report of a gang of around 50 hooded guys storm their training ground and attack the players – mainly aiming for BD by all accounts!!
Seems their own fans didnt react too well to them missing out on a CL spot after defeat on sunday.

Comment #12“Mike Ashley Manufacturing Another Crisis At Newcastle”
No he’s not!
Ashley is quite capable of ‘creating another crisis Newcastle’ but at the present moment there is no evidence to support this rumour.
Any blame for this so-called ‘crisis’ rests on the keyboards of lazy vindictive journalists, filling a vacuum in the absence of real news…
