Here’s another video from NUFC comps as they have updated their Rafa revolution composite to include this past season when we finished 10th in the Premier League.
Wonder if Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley have any plans to get Rafa signed up quickly to an extended contract – since the transfer window officially opened last Thursday.
There’s very little news about what’s going on in the talks between Rafa’s reps and Lee Charnley.
Why do Newcastle always get bogged down when they enter negotiations?

If we actually set achievable targets for next year in order to formulate a applicable budget, then any agreement will be a lot more practical. Rather than irrationally claiming we have got £100m which will hardly guarantee a CL place.
I think not falling back is a good start, 10th or higher but with a good run in a Cup would be good. How much would that cost?

Given that the sale appears to have fallen away ( as far as we know like everything NUFC) rather than spend a sunny Sunday morning (whilst watching HK 7’s – thats Micky for link) moping I prefer to think positive.
So … whatever anyone thinks of Ashley if he is to remain who would we rather have in our corner right now? Pepe? Mouriniho? Pochettino? Klopp? Conte? Nah
Step forward Rafa, a battlehardened and shrewd veteran of clashes with owners and particularly Ashley. A man whose position of strength only grows more powerful and seemingly without a chink in his armour. A man who is still where he is not because he is stuck with no way out but because he wants to be here and finish what he has started.
A Battle Royale!! …..yes but by no means a foregone conclusion as some regularly bring themselves and others down with by their jonah like predictions because it fits their agenda.
Believe it or not it is entirely conceivable(at least to me with my eyes fully open) that Rafa will stay and work with the devil because he is a pragmatic manager who if he negotiates from strength and is given enough to suit his needs as he currently assesses them then he can continue his good work on a forward basis. As I and others have said – Ashley simply needs him more than Rafa needs him!
Some may feel I have opined as much before but I am inspired to do so by others who regularly pursue their particular take on here regardless.
Anyway time for a sip from my half full mug of coffee as I wait for our appearnce in HK final

Comment #12I’m still trying to figure out the debt of 144m, if someone buys the club what happens to the debt, is that included in the price the buyers pay, does it stay with the club, does it disappear. I would be grateful for clarification on this matter as is it doing my head in.

It’s the original £129 interest free stuff from Ashley
plus a further £15M last season

Comment #14First time I have seen the golden goal finish – didn’t realise what was happening at first thought it was simply play on and first to score one wins it. Good finish by Roberts but Rangers probably unlucky beforehand although we had good chances as well.

I for one will hold my hand up and give credit where it’s due and acknowledge Perez has had a great 5 months till the end of the season but let us put it in perspective, before then, Perez was pants,I go back to the ManU game at home when he was continuously mugged through running up a blind alley instead of releasing the ball, Perez has improved along with Mo Diame and the rest of the team .No need for anyone to repent.

Comment #21It actually disappeared when Ashley bought us and cleared it, but somehow it managed to stick around, I can only assume for creative tax purposes and as a rather feeble justification not to charge SD for it’s advertising. The extra money he’s kicked in over the years shouldn’t be considered a debt either. He owns the friggin club, lock, stock and barrel. It’s all a rather outrageous furphy as far as I can tell..

Comment #22I’ve always liked Perez. He did struggle a bit initially in the set up as second fiddle to Gayle last term, but persevered and came good as the season unfolded. Before that he was a good young player, in a pretty patchy troubled eple Newcastle side. This season he’s gone from strength to strength. I think he’s been an excellent signing, and is still not yet the finished article.

Comment #24….for example, someone who could donate a good proportion of his unusable wealth to good causes, helping people……..or a multi-billionaire founder of a massive corporation who sits on enough wealth to settle a national debt or two? Hmm.. poser, that one….

Comment #25The debt and liability stayed with the club after it was bought. Essentially the club still needed to still repay the loan and so really it should have come off the asking price but it seems it was missed in the review of finances before the sale. Essentially, previous owners left us with £100m external debt.
What Ashley did was loan the club the money to pay back the debters so that the club did not have to pay interest on those loans. He made his loan interest free.
The original debt when he bought the club 11 years or so was £100m. He then loaned an additional £30m or so when we had the spending spree on the French players during Pardew’s reign. Then it seems he loaned some more last season hence it’s gone up again.
One reason it’s important to know this is when we talk about the price that Ashley is asking for the club we need to consider that it owes him £145m or so now.

Comment #26You go back to one game against one of the most expensively assembled sides in the history of the game, where he was often isolated and working his socks off trying to create and make something happen, as evidence of him being pants. You’ll need to do better.

Comment #29It owes him more than that Potts, it’s the £144m now PLUS the original price which was I believe was around £135, so it owes him in cash terms £280m.
Now, how much has he taken back out of it (if anything), advertising? Retail? Concessions? Also it’s difficult to compare as it’s not apples with apples, as what would a buyer be buying? The land in Strawberry Place for example?
It’s never easy, hence due diligence, which he messed up first time.

Comment #33I have very much enjoyed amateur accounting week on the blog though. As though it’s a mystery why the accounts are spanned across different financial periods to show tactical losses. Much funnier though seeing people attempt to score points with the “evidence” – some priceless assumptions that are worth revisiting later on. 🙂

Comment #34Agreed Micky. Complicated to know what is or is not included in the price…which is why I don’t pay any attention to rumours of what the price is..because we don’t know what is covered and what isn’t in that. But, yes, it owes him a lot.
An just to be clear, I’m also not saying he’s a hero for loaning the club interest free. It’s good for both sides as obviously he is protecting his investment.
But £100m when he bought the club 11 or so years ago was a massive liability when you think of income was from the premier league compared to know, and what £100m then is worth now.
