The talks between Lee Charnley and Rafa Benitez and his reps are still going on and this is now the start of the fifth week of the negotiations.
We had all hoped that things would have been sorted out by now but the one good thing is that it seems a decision has been made to go after some of Rafa’s top transfer targets – even while the talks go on.
Rafa would like a conclusion as soon as possible but he’s not pushing Newcastle to agree to things by a certain date.
And West Ham are now almost certain to appoint Manual Pellegrini to their vacant manager position within a day or two.
Rafa Benitez – talks drag on
The Mirror did report that Newcastle would be willing to back Rafa in the transfer window and that rumor was that he will get £50M up front in cash plus anything he can get from transfers out of the club which could be another £40M.
The worst case would be if Rafa goes ahead with his spending this summer without bothering to sign a new contract.
That’s possible because he still has one year left on his current deal.
Rafa could elect to see out the one year left and see what he can achieve with whatever Mike Ashley agrees to give him in transfer funds him this summer.
The good news is it will be a lot more money that Rafa has had from the owner in the last three transfer windows put together
In a story about Manual Pellegrini in the Mirror, Darren Lewis has reported Newcastle will back Rafa in the transfer market to keep him, but that’s as far as it goes.
What do you think?

Comment #3Nicky – it was my system to put Perez for Ayoze and L Perez for the other one so I’m afraid Jesper was clear.

Comment #6Why would Rafa want to put up this this crap? He can get a far easier job, working with people who understand his ability and will support him, fully knowing their club will be far better for having him on board.
We have an utter oaf in charge who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Ashley should be counting his blessings that Rafa is even prepared to work for NUFC given the way he’s being treated.

Comment #7Slightly off topic but was just reading Darren Moore’s pressie on BBC website. Seems like a good guy and shows how shit Pardew is! I was intrigued to remind myself who he signed and found an article praising his Jan transfer window which consisted of keeping Jonny Evans, getting a 6ft 4 defender from the Egyptian league on loan ( who didn’t play) and finally ( the most glorious of all) snatching Dan Sturridge from NUFCs grasp. The talk was that this would keep them up and condemn NUFC to relegation. Well that one backfired. The guy is permanently injured. So pleased we didn’t get him, although admittedly Slimani did not turn out to be much better!
