Football Arena are reporting that Newcastle target Garry Rodrigues has been making comments on his future to the Greek press.
The news previously was that Newcastle were keen on the Galatasaray forward and are lining up a bid for around €23M (£20.2M) for the player this summer.
That would be a record transfer for Newcastle but we fully expect the record of £17M we paid Real Madrid for Michael Owen in 2005 to be broken this summer.
Newcastle have been linked with a move for Rodrigues for a while now, and we are reported to have bid for him in the January transfer window.
Garry Rodrigues – 27-year-old Dutch-born Galatasaray forward
Everton and West Ham have also been linked with Rodrigues.
This is what he has told the Greek media:
“I hear there are many rumors about other clubs’ interest in me. I want to stay in Galatasaray.”
“I am very happy here.” “We will play in the Champions League next season and I am totally focused on Galatasaray.”
That’s good political correctness coming from Garry Rodrigues.
But if he joined Newcastle, he would be able to double his wages and also play in the most popular sports league in the world, the games of which are shown live on TV around the world.
It would be a huge opportunity for the 27-year-old Cape Verde forward who was born in Holland.
Rodrigues seems to be one of Rafa’s top targets.
We expect goalkeeper Martin Dubravka to be Newcastle’s first signing this summer and Garry could be the second.
That would be an excellent start to the summer transfer window for Newcastle.
