Alan Shearer Blasts Mike Ashley – And Rafa’s Made The Owner A Lot More Than Just £5M

Alan Shearer has said once again that he wouldn’t blame Rafa Benitez if he simply walked out on Newcastle and say to the fans that he cannot put up with not being backed anymore.

Mike Ashley has not supported him over the last three transfer windows although in January after talking with Rafa he did agree to bring in three loan players to (kind of) help out.

Two of Rafa’s top choices – Kenedy and Martin Dubravka-  were huge successes and helped us survive in the Premier League.

Rafa hopes to sign both players in the summer but it’s doubtful we can get the young Brazilian U23 International Kenedy back on Tyneside.

Alan Shearer  blasts Ashley – but Rafa can make Newcastle into a £600M club in two years

We were forced to sign Leicester City Islam Slimani when he was injured and maybe because of the thigh injury he didn’t have a good time of it on Tyneside.

Alan Shearer has been speaking to the Magpie Channel on Youtube and here’s some of what he said:

“No one can blame him if he turned around to Newcastle fans and said ‘I can’t put up with this anymore’. We’ll probably say, ‘You know what, we don’t blame him’.”

“He needs backing. He needs assurances.” “Hopefully he’ll get that because he has done an incredible job this year with what I believe is very limited resources.”

“Why would Mike suddenly say ‘I’ll give you so much money?’ He said it last season – ‘you can have every single penny the club generates, you can have to spend.”

“”But that was a load of rubbish and didn’t happen.”

“I think Rafa has made him four or five million in the transfer market net in the time he’s been here which has been incredible.”

“Michael Owen is still our highest transfer, which when you look around at Brighton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield and all these other football clubs which have been in the Championship, and come back up.”

“We get 52,000 here every single week, one of the best-supported teams around, then yes, he will have the same issues next season if he decides to stay here.”

“Rafa has done a magnificent job in very very difficult circumstances.”

Rafa has spent wisely in the transfer market and maybe he has made Ashley £5M.

But making money on transfers is maybe not the best way to look at it.

The big picture is since December after Newcastle’s fantastic comeback from possible relegation to finishing 10th in the Premier has probably made Mike Ashley as much as £100M in the price of the Newcastle club.

And even before that Rafa had us immediately promoted to the Premier League which increased the value of Newcastle United FC.

Maybe it’s not as much as  £100M since December, although Ashley raised the price from £300M to £400M in that period,  but it’s at least £50M for a club that was struggling to survive in December.

So to answer Alan’s question – why would Ashley give Rafa big money to spend now?

To make Newcastle into a top club worth a lot more than £400M in two years time.

That’s how Mike Ashley can make a big profit on Newcastle and we could be a £600M club in the summer of 2020 with sufficient investment coming from the owner now.

But we are completely mystified why Ashley doesn’t invest in the short-term and sell the club in a couple of years time.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

if that’s the case why did Amanda Staveley not jump in at 400 million knowing it’s going to be worth 600 million in 2020. I still say a lost opportunity.

Shearer definitely in the Ashley hating brigade, a lot to do with his own dealings I think.

If Mike Ashley keeps the club on the market indefinitely, I’d bet the farm on him continually increasing his asking price.

Change the record Shearer, he keeps saying the same thing in slightly different words, and the populace lap up his every last word.

Well he’s not the messiah – he’s a very naughty boy..

Jazzy P, a couple of threads ago

You anticipate an income of around £60 from the sale of 8 or 9 players.

Am I wrong in thinking that player sales to the value of £60m will only give Rafa £15m towards player purchases since we buy outright but all other clubs buy (and therefore we sell) over 3, 4 or 5 years?

Nobody would blame Rafa if he walked away. I think that pretty much goes without saying. This is likely Shearer’s way of applying his own pressure, although tbh it’s likely water off a duck’s back for Ashley.

With that logic we would have more than 15 mil, as we would be receiving money for players sold in previous years

I’m sure Shearer has said or done things that he could be pilloried for, however the stuff quoted here is hardly sensationalist or even rings untrue. In fact it’s fairly spot on as a current assessment of the situation.

That’s true. We’re still receiving £6m p.a. for Sissoko, for example. Somehow these amounts never seem to be included in estimates of available funds.

You have to allow for expenses
The laundry bill for the shirts shorts and socks
    would make your eyes water.
Lee Charnley is at the Launderette on the West road nearly all day
    Monday.
Then there’s the provvy man to be paid
and the rent man from the council
it just goes on and on.

Alan Shearer, is spot on with his comments and most Newcastle fans totally agree with him except a very small amount of fans who are totally deluded or think the earth is flat, we all know Ashley will never change in a million years, he has no interest in Newcastle and has zero ambition in the club, we should really enjoy this year with Rafa as he wont be here next year as there is no way Rafa will put up with Ashleys lies and deciet. HWTL.

I was against Shearer making statements ” Rafa won’t stay” etc.

I’m with him now as it’s clear what’s going on at Newcastle United .

Ashley boils my P*ss, hes toying with Rafa .

Ashley has the hearts and minds of the Geordie nation in his hands, he has no emotional attachment so does not care about the Football club or the people who support it.

He is playing a dangerous game in this Transfer window.

    Will Rafa walk ? Yes.

I’ve never once seen him on MotD comment
on how any other club is run.
Perhaps that’s because he’s only ever been sacked by the
    owner of NUFC.

Arnoutavic – however they spell it – is apparently on the radar of Manure from Wet Spam. Don’t know what price it is, but it won’t be cheap. £50m plus? Very good player who will only improve with better quality around him. That could fund a bid for Lascelles who they’ve shown great interest in. Just as well he’s happy here and Rafa wants to keep him. Another reason to ensure Rafa gets that control he wants, regardless of how long it takes.
These are the situations that might decide his future.

Owning a football club for all the wrong reasons , driving sports direct is Ashley’s objective , we are secondary to that.

Can the FA Prem implement a fit and proper owners/ persons test on an established owner if he or she abuses the Football club they have ownership of ?

After all there’s a test and scrutiny before your allowed to buy a football club ..why not have a test if the owner turns BAD ?

    Ashley’s a wrong un ‘.

He’s been hauled before parliment/HLords? for his abuse/exploitation of employees.

Can’t hide that. He’s not going to change.

If there are any Ashley supporters out there I can safely tell you without contradiction that your interface with the rest of the world is skewed and there is something wrong with your logic .

    See a Doctor.

I’m absolutely astounded at the pro-Ashley comments and negative Shearer comments clearly a lot of you have not been to many games this season or have stuck to commentary from the Daily Mail, Ashley will kill this club unless he is seen off by another buyer he is a proven liar yet there are some who forgive the 11 years of lies. I give up, give your heeds a shake.

Rafa might have loads to spend, the reason why it might not be going public is because we don’t want to get ripped off. Don’t listen to paper talk, come back when a player has actually been signed then judge the situation

Its happened over too many transfer windows and then there’s Joe Kinnear.

    We know the form.

Stringing one of the best Football managers on this planet along, couldn’t even give him 12 mill to sign Townsend.

This at a football club with a fan base in attendance to the tune of 53 thousand supporters at each home match.massive merchandise and catering sales , season ticket sales..match day revenue and TV money. Ten times bitten , totally shy now.
