Martin Dubravka – Proud, Honored And Relieved To Sign For Newcastle

Martin Dubravka took to social media after completing his signing for Newcastle yesterday, and he says he was both honored and relieved to sign for Newcastle United.

It was almost 100% certain that Rafa wanted to sign the Slovakian International goalkeeper after his excellent performances for us on loan, but in the world of football you never really know.

Martin took to Newcastle and the fans immediately once he arrived on the last day of the January transfer window.

And as Rafa had predicted one or two good players can make the difference to the team.

And that’s what happened when we brought in Kenedy from Chelsea and Dubravka from Sparta Prague in January on loan.

They both played really well and helped us get the wins we needed to survive and indeed finish in a respectable 10th place in the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez congratulates Martin Dubravka after terrific debut against Man United

As might be expected the 29-year-old was over the moon yesterday signing for Newcastle and this is a massive opportunity for our new goalkeeper.

This is what Martin said on social media:

“I feel proud, honored and relieved by the decision to make the move to Tyneside permanent.”

“It’s a fantastic moment and I am glad to stay with you, Toon Army.”

“It’s been an exciting few months and I hope we will build on our performances in the next season.”

“Thank you for the unbelievable reactions throughout this period and after the season, it just feels right and I will continue to work hard for Newcastle and for the gaffer!

“Thank you for everything!”

Dubravka is a Rafa Benitez type of player – his character is outstanding, his work ethic is fantastic, and he is a team player who is determined to improve his game on Tyneside under Rafa’s coaching.

We need three or four more players like Martin brought in this summer and we could do very well next season.

Let’s hope one of them is Kenedy.

Comments welcome.

Was fantastic to watch his debut against Man utd. Vast improvement on what we’ve had between the sticks for some time now imo. Onwards n upwards for the Toon we hope.

I think if we sign Traore (which I’d love), Benitez would also want a right back that is more defensive than Yedlin. Benitez seems to care about the balance. The Craig Dawson rumour last month would make sense. He could be our 4th choice CB too, meaning we wouldn’t need to replace Mbemba. I can see us getting that Stururo or whatever he’s called too, maybe letting Hayden go.

So apparently Rafa is not taking a summer holiday so he can push through another FIVE signings!??

Quite exciting if this is true

I hope we are looking at signing a left back as well Dummett is great defensively but we need someone to push him and also who can be more attacking !

I think the signing of MD yesterday has quite a simple
    explanation.
His loan contract doesn’t terminate until midnight tonight
    doh !

‘Releived’? Strange choice of words. If taken at face value (rather than as a mis-translation or other error), that suggests Dubravka himself was sweating on this deal going through, which in itself suggests that it was in the balance until quite recently and that any hold-up was not from his side.

I wonder what has changed in the background to enable this deal to go through?

As I said over a fortnight ago to the mockery
    of the blog brains trust.

It was widely reported in the Czech and Slovak press
that it was a done deal.

    Rob
I think it’s more likely he’s relieved because
he’s seen media reports linking us with other
    goalies.

Imagine a LB having to come up against Traore and Yedlin – dressing room afterwards in a state of shock post-match “I can’t really remember anything, it was all a blur.”.

Personally would love Traore here, though part of me just thinks it’s an easy link to make. Spanish, already settled in area etc. It makes too much sense.

Would love to see Rafa hone such an exciting talent.

    Offer them £15m and Aarons.

Jib, your showing your sarcastic and arrogant side early and showing all the signs of leading up to another falling out of a plane moment.

Will you ever learn that an apology doesn’t earn the right to repeat an act that offends?
