Two days ago Newcastle were linked with Fulham right-back Ryan Fredericks, and the news was that Rafa was interested in bringing the 26-year-old to Newcastle.
The manager wants to bring in a right-back this summer to challenge DeAndre Yedlin for the right back starting position next season and hence the reported interest in the Hammersmith-born player.
But it looks like he wants to stay in London and the Mail are reporting it’s almost certain he will sign for West Ham United.
He is a free agent this summer, so the price was decent, but we wonder if Newcastle were really after the player?
Fulham right-back Ryan Fredericks celebrating promotion last Saturday
He started his career at his hometown club Tottenham Hotspur and eventually moved to Bristol City before joining the Cottagers on a three year deal in the summer of 2015.
Now look for any right-back who becomes available this summer to be linked with Newcastle even if we have no interest.
Newcastle got off to a good start in the transfer window on Wednesday when we signed goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for just £4M from Sparta Prague.
Rafa is said to want five more players brought in this summer – a right back, a center-back, a central midfielder, a winger, and a striker.
One down and five to go – but Fredericks will not be coming to Newcastle.

Comment #1These posts are going up so fast I can’t keep up. From the previous post…
Does anyone know what’s happening with Beardsley after the bullying accusations?

Comment #2After a succession of underachieving players have trooped through the doors of NUFC experts have been grappling with a possible scientific conclusion to the problem of the “Double Consonant” curse – it can be no mere coincidence to have seen Mbembas, Mbiwas, Mbabus…all fail to make the grade despite outstanding earlier promise. It may be down to the actual sound a double consonant introduction makes, for example Hugo Lloris’ double consonant actually resembles a double vowel ‘io’.
Although much research has been afforded this study, scientists remain Mbaffled.

Comment #6Why has Ed stated Rafa wants a right back when we’ve only had dummet as a lone choice at natural leftback? Do you think he considers clark And manquillo as suitable cover??

Comment #7it’s speculated we’re after a right back so we’ll be linked with a few. we already have yedlin and manquillo so ashley will probably not be happy about having three highly paid right backs. and we only have one left back. we need someone comfortable playing right across the back – like mbabu or mbemba or maybe mbiwa haha

Comment #10I read an article stating rafa wants 22 players (3 youth challenging) who can all be competitive and losing 1 or 2 or 3 players being out doesn’t make us uncompetitive in matches as well is not something rafa will accept.
So on that basis I think rafa will want more than the 4 or 5 positions in our first team addressed. He wants the squad addressed.
However I think how much of that he can get done will depend on outgoings.

I think we could do worse than go for Fabio from the Boro I think he would be in our price range, still quick and delivers a good cross.
