Newcastle Put In Bid For Impressive 21-Year-Old Brazilian Midfielder

There’s a report in France that Rafa Benitez is interested in bringing Lille midfielder Thiago Maia to Tyneside.

The report is in le10sport.com and it’s that Newcastle are seriously considering signing the 6 times capped Brazilian U23 International.

Maia signed on at Lille from Santos last summer for €14M so the transfer fee for Newcastle will be a fairly hefty one.

The report is that Newcastle have been watching the Brazilian for some time now and certainly he’s the right age for Newcastle to make a bid.

21-year-old Lille midfielder Thiago Maia

He was born in Boa Vista, Brazil and joined Santos back in 2011.

le10sport.com are reporting that Newcastle have in fact put in an initial bid for the player already but that Lille turned down that offer.

There’s no news what that offer is.

We expect Newcastle to go back in for a player who has skill and talent and would add competition to Newcastle’s central midfield.

Maia played 37 times last season for Lille and scored one goal.

While at Santos he made his debut for the Brazilian club at just 17 and ended up playing 75 games with 4 goals and 2 asists for the club.

If we are interested in the player let’s hope we can move quickly and wrap up the deal.

What do you think?

Comments are welcome.

Does anybody know if there was any sell on clause when we got Lascelles from Forest? He was young and very promising, you could imagine that there would have been.

IF Rafa wanted to sell lascelles it would have to be north of 60 million.

By the way where the he’ll do you buy leaders from as in my opinion selling him make a us half the side we were last season.

I’d genuinely stick a price tag of 100 million on him.

If we land this guy, does that mean Hayden is on his bike?

Wonder if clubs like Chelsea are getting nervous in case there’s a knock on the door, usually a pound one at about 6am

He is considered the most powerful figure in football in Croatia, but now Zdravko Mamic has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for corruption.
Mamic was found guilty of siphoning of millions of euros in transfer fees when he was an executive at Dinamo Zagreb.
On the eve of the verdict he fled across the border into Bosnia.
Among the ex-Dinamo players caught up in the trial is Croatia captain Luka Modric, who was charged with perjury.

    Agree with OneAlanShearer…

Lascelles isn’t just a defender, he is the heartbeat of todays NUFC.

A genuine, true leader AND he is only 24!

Virgil van Dijk went for £75M (26), yes a good defender but is he a genuine vocal leader?

So for me, at this moment in time Lascelles is priceless to our cause…

What we as a club should do is start scouting for a replacement now, with a view to selling in 2 Years time when he is in the National team, his price will be genuinely eye watering.

If this is true does that mean we are not going after the other 20+ players we are supposedly close to signing. All B.S. the only signing I am interested in & am getting more worried about is signing Raffa. Fatty must be going nuts wondering how he can do this without spending any money
