Top Class 34 Goal Striker Could Be Affordable And Available To Newcastle

There’s a report in Marca today that Sevilla, Everton and Newcastle are interested in Sporting Lisbon star striker Bas Dost – with Newcastle reported to be very interested.

Newcastle have been interested in signing Bas Dost for a few years now, and there was news this summer that Rafa is still interested in signing the 6ft 5ins Sporting Lisbon striker.

The primary barrier to signing the Netherlands International has been the fee – with the release clause in his contract set at €60M.

Newcastle cannot afford anywhere near that amount.

But after the fans attacked the Sporting Lisbon players after training last month (and Dost was one of the ones injured), some of his team-mates have already left the club.

Bas Dost – 29-year-old Sporting Lisbon striker

There have been some hints that he may be able to force his way out of the club on a free transfer – but we very much doubt that can happen.

Dost does seem determined to leave the Lisbon club this summer though.

In April, Sporting’s President, Bruno De Carvalho openly criticized his players for their lack of effort and professionalism in losing 2-0 at Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals – and that was not well received by the players.

If Dost is available on a free transfer then Newcastle would be interested, but so would a host of other big clubs, so it would still be difficult to attract the player.

He joined Sporting Lisbon from Wolfsburg two years ago for a fee of just €12M (£10.5M), and he scored 34 goals in 48 total appearances for the Lisbon club last season.

It would be fabulous if we can lure the Netherlands star to Newcastle – but it still looks a long shot – even if he does become a free agent.

Comments welcome.

Bet Putin and the Ruskies are worried

Val Kilmer is set to star in the Top Gun sequel, reviving his role as fighter pilot Iceman. He will star alongside Tom Cruise in the film, 33 years after the original was released, US media reported.

Perhaps we could have our own version: Top Toon
    Lascalles plays Maverick.
    Shelvey plays Iceman.
    Rafa plays the Base Commander.
Ashley plays the baddie – ha ha
Eva Carnerio is signed to play the Kelly McGillis role
Braydon Races plays on the juke box.

33 years on ? Gawd some of the bloggers here won’t know what I’m on about or what I’m on for that matter.

This is from an article in The Mag this April:

“It is one of the first signs of summer I look for – Newcastle being linked with Bas Dost – but this time it has come far earlier than other obvious signs of summer, such as men (not on a football pitch) wearing shorts, petrol stations doing the hard sell on B-B-Q stuff, wasps appearing, and pubs taking bookings for Christmas.”

Damn does that mean we’ve missed out again, The Mighty Akinfenwa to Liverpool, bet he wouldn’t disgrace himself.

And Ramos would probably end up with dislocated arms trying to pull him over. 🙂

    Thats when we get relegated.
Stay away until the fat man is gone.

Doesn’t Elland Road look like a tired 1980s ground? Nothing comparable to the modern Premier League grounds. Don’t know what they did to get the match….

I’d take Bas Dost in the blink of an eye if it were psossible to get him to come to NUFC. I believe he’s exactly what Newcastle have been missing and he would definately take us into the top six of EPL. Ah well John dream on!
