It looks like the deal to move Chancel Mbemba to Porto is progressing quite well according to Portuguese outlet Mais Football.
Anderlecht were hoping to buy both Chancel Mbemba and goalkeeper Matz Sels for a bargain £8M but Newcastle rejected that offer.
Newcastle have since rejected a £1.75M offer for Sels, and that specific deal now looks to be dead in the water.
Sels is not too pleased and would like the Belgian club to be more aggressive in trying to agree on a deal with Newcastle.
And it seems Newcastle will get £8M for Mbemba and that’s about what we paid Anderlecht for him three years ago – maybe a little bit more than that.
Chancel Mbemba – off to Porto soon
This is what his agent Fabio Baglio has told Mais Futebol:
“Negotiations are now happening between the two clubs. We were in Porto this week and the player has agreed a deal for four years.”
“This week, there will be a response from Newcastle to FC Porto’s proposal. We are convinced that everything will be settled.”
Baglio seems sure that a deal will be closed very soon and that would be good for both parties.
It’s good for Newcastle because at least we get a decent fee for Mbemba, who is unwanted by Rafa Benitez, and that £8M can go towards the manager’s transfer funds for the summer.
We hope it goes through and Anderlecht were only £500K off Newcastle’s valuation of Sels of £2.5M – so maybe that deal will resurface?
