News today that Stoke’s new boss Gary Rowett has made an offer of £10M for 27-year-old Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle.
There was news earlier this week that Rowlett rated Gayle and the Newcastle striker has already proved he can score goals in the Championship.
He scored 23 goals in just 34 appearances for Newcastle the season before last.
Dwight Gayle – £10M offer from Stoke City
It is looking like Rafa will let the striker move on, but the manager would probably like to get up to £15M for the player who scored 6 goals last season in the Premier League for Newcastle.
Stoke have just signed striker Benik Afobe from Wolves on a six-month loan with an option to buy.
Rowlett is looking for a strike partner for the DR Congo International – and Gayle is the preferred target.
With the first bid being what Newcastle paid for Gayle two years ago from Crystal Palace, the odds are that Rafa will allow him to leave.
But more Championship clubs could also want the 27-year-old Newcastle striker this summer.
Newcastle are also said to be close to transferring Chancel Mbemba to Porto for around £8M but no fee has yet been agreed although news from Portugal today is the deal is close to completing.
If we can sell Mbemba and Gayle for £18M and Aleksandar Mitrovic for £20M later this summer, then Rafa will have another £38M to spend this summer.
The Chronicle is reporting Rafa will be given about £40M in cash to spend and some other outlets such as the Telegraph are saying it’s £50M.
That’s in addition to funds for transferring players out of the club – which could amount to more than £40M.
So Rafa could have close to £90M to spend this summer if he can sell some of his more expensive players like Mbemba, Gayle, and Mitrovic.
