Jacob Murphy was back on Tyneside last week three weeks early to get some early fitness training done before the squad reports back on Tyneside two weeks tomorrow.
Jacob’s twin brother Josh has just signed for newly promoted Cardiff City on a 4-year contract for a fee of around £11M,
Jacob signed for Newcastle last summer on a four-year contract for a fee of around £12M.
So the twin brothers whose parents are from Gateshead (and Newcastle supporters) could be meeting each other in the second game of the season when we travel to the Cardiff City Stadium on 18 August.
Jacob Murphy – in action at Old Trafford last season
This is what Jacob Murphy said on nufcTV:
“It’ll be a tough opening month.”
“But we finished the season really strongly so I think we’re going to go in with a lot of confidence.”
“We picked up some good results.” “Games will be there for the taking for us and hopefully we can start the season strongly.”
“That will put us on the front foot for the rest of the season.”
“I think there won’t be anything to fear coming into this new season.”
“We have a strong squad and everybody fights for each other.”
“So the boys know what the score will be when have to face this teams.”
“We’re looking forward to it.” “The second game, our first away game of the season is a nice one.”
“I will be buzzing to play against my brother in a competitive fixture.” “It’s never happened before.”
“Usually we are playing against each other in training and stuff.”
“It’s now got to the point where I’m actually going to have to tackle him.”
“I can tell him what to expect.” “So he won’t be worried and will know what he has got himself into.”
“We have each other to share the experience with.”
WE’re not sure too many games will be there for the taking next season but the lads will be a lot more experience after their excellent efforts of last term.
After playing Tottenham at home in our first game on 11 August we will be expected to win at the Cardiff City Stadium the following Saturday whatever the result is against Spurs.
Hopefully, Murphy will have a good season for us next term.

Comment #1Mitrovic clearly has strengths but the reason he probably isn’t in Rafa’s plans in think is that when he loses the ball he saunters around making little effort to press or fill space. he looks lackadaisical at the best of times. too much of a luxury for Rafa. Jane’s prediction was 1-0 🙂

Comment #3So we lost both our gk coaches, Andy woodman and Chris Terpacou to Arsenal….
Why are they going after our coaches? Our coaches are world class?
