Newcastle fans seem undecided on our latest transfer target – Jordon Ayew from Swansea City.
The Swans want £13M for him and Fulham have already had an offer of £8M turned down for the Ghanaian International forward.
We’re not overwhelmed by the potential signing, but we have Rafa Benitez at the club and if anybody can get the very best out of Ayew then it’s Rafa.
And Ayew does have skills and he’s a good technical player although certainly not a prolific goalscorer.
Jordon Ayew – in action against Southampton last season
Here are some of the comments on Twitter about Jordon and his possible signing.
I don’t believe for one second that we’re interested in Jordan Ayew.#NUFC

Jordan Ayew is a perfect signing on price/ experience and an improvement on Gayle/ Joselu and YES bloody Mitro. But it’s the kind of signing Chron will rubbish by the end of the day as it makes complete sense and we don’t do sense #nufc https://t.co/qPlxuinLuf

#NUFC have expressed an interest in signing Swansea forward Jordan Ayew. Ayew was Swansea’s top scorer with 11 goals last season and he’s keen to leave South Wales following their relegation from the Premier League. Swansea want £13M. [Football Ghana]

We should do all we can to keep Merino, we’d be mad to get rid of him! And as for Ayew he is not the one #nufc https://t.co/0d89RwKLHc

Even Jordan Ayew from Swansea for £8mil is a bargain in todays market! We should be all over that #NUFC

And there it is ! The direction of our transfer window the recruitment calibre we are targeting to improve our squad ……. J. AYEW ?? Fuk my life #nufc

Comment #2From previous, San Sebastian is a lovely little city, some of the best tapas in Spain – way better than Barcelona’s for example.

Comment #3Depends what Ayew is being bought for. As a squad player he is a massive step up from Joselu, for example. As THE main striker he is nowhere near good enough.

#NUFC are leading the race to sign Lyon forward Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The 20yr old, who made his debut for Lyon’s first-team back in 2016, spent last season on-loan at Le Havre.
He scored 19 goals in 16 Ligue 2 games for Le Havre last season and is a France U19 international.

Comment #8If Real Sociedad have offered €15m for Merino I’d take it as I doubt he has the power or pace to improve our team sadly, cos he has great talent.

Comment #12Funny that he was being mentioned as one for the future on various blogs and now we see people saying we should sell if the price is right.
The PRICE is never right if we are seriously trying to build a squad of quality players, we should be keeping them and adding to them and not with Swansea or anybody else’s rejects.
It really gets up my nose when we sell our best players as in days of yore under previous regimes never mind Mr Ashley.

Comment #14EGB @12 – I agree 100%. He is a young lad just breaking into the first team and he can’t expect to be first pick just yet. If he is not happy with this then he shouldn’t have agreed to let us buy him and signed a contract.

I was once working in Toledo on the Mayors house, Penelope Cruz just happened to pass by and took a liking to me, took me to a great Tapas bar, we got so drunk I don’t remember getting home.

Comment #18Ayew is not a “target”, he’s a fictional creation of yet another lazy hack’s ramblings.
Neither he, nor Jorgenson, nor Joselu or quite a few others that have been mentioned are of the calibre we need for the team to build on last year’s performance.
Rafa knows the level of players we need.
It remains to be seen if Charnley and market conditions can locate them.

Comment #20Merino needs to stay and feel the love.
He’s had a back injury that has been treated correctly and cautiously to ensure his long term fitness.
Murphy has come back early for fitness conditioning and maybe some body building to boost his power on the pitch.
Look what happened to Diame when he moved from carthorse to racehorse.
If Merino is fit hopefully he will be with Murphy getting in some pre-season conditioning as he’s all the potential to become a key player for the team and squad.
Rafa is building.
Step by step.

Comment #21What I do approve of with Jib’s less hostile comments about Mr Ashley is that his blog moles will report back to him saying that not everyone loathes him.
It just might make him a little more appreciative of what he has.
Just a viewpoint nothing more.

Comment #22I haven’t posted recently as I couldn’t be bothered in this “phoney war” period.
We seem to be after so many striker as do all the other lower half teams that my head is spinning.
I think I should ask EGB how long to go to the opening match in August , but he seems rather p****d so I won’t but I might ask him how many strikers have we been linked to so far

Comment #23I like the attitude of Murphy for coming back early Shelvey did it last season and you could see how much fitter he was !
We looked a lot more balanced against Chelsea with Murphy cutting in on his right Kennedy has been good on the left but I feel he runs out of places to go as Dummett doesn’t overlap to provide space so he gets crowded out a lot!
Both would be great options to have as I feel Kennedy could do even better on the right wing or even in central midfield/no 10 as he does have the skills ! One of his best games against Southampton him and Perez were rotating positions all the time was really good to watch

Comment #28These numerous rumours and talk of merino wanting to go back to Spain dont just happen. I reckon him and his side are pushing for a deal. If he doesn’t want to fight for his place then yeah, get rid. Not the type of attitude or character we should be looking for. Not knocking his talent and potential. If sociedad are interested then he should be used in a makeweight for Willian jose and solve our striking issues in one swipe.

Comment #40He really looked the business at the start but gradually morphed into mediocrity in the second half of the season for some reason. There was a lot of talk about him leaving in January mind. It looks like as soon as he realised he wouldn’t be starting every week he was keen to leave to be honest.
