Next Two Weeks Important For Rafa’s Future – But Things Aren’t Looking Great

Newcastle have so far signed only one player in this transfer market, and it was an absolute bargain when we paid Sparta Prague  £4M for goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Rafa wants Newcastle to move much more quickly in the transfer window to get his top targets in.

But this is looking as poor and indecisive as it was last summer when Rafa was less than pleased at the speed Newcastle did their transfer business.

Nothing much seems to have changed, and in addition to not bringing players in, we are also having trouble selling players for a decent price.

Chancel Mbemba’s move to Porto has been stalled because Newcastle want £8M for the defender and Porto only want to pay £6M.

Rafa Benitez – has been quiet over the summer

Matz Sels proposed transfer to Anderlecht has broken down with the news that Anderlecht bid £1.75M for the goalkeeper and Newcastle want £2.25M.

It was always going to be a difficult summer for Rafa, but he has not seen any significant improvements in the way Newcastle go about their transfer business.

And the financial restraints are still there from Mike Ashley.

They will always be there from Mike Ashley.

This is not good news in a window that is very important to the future of Rafa Benitez as the Newcastle manager; he has one year left on his three year deal at Newcastle.

It will take a significant effort from Rafa himself to get some good players signed before August 9th and on the positive side of things that’s not impossible.

But Rafa could get a lot more support at almost any other Premier League club, and he’s probably not too happy with things right now.

Training starts up again a week on Monday, and it will be interesting to see what he says at that time.

He will want some signings done before then, so it’s a critical two weeks, but there seems little chance of new players coming in, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

The manager has been very quiet over the summer.

Comments welcome.

As it stands, we may not have signed anyone but there’s a flip side. We haven’t sold anyone either and those we have lost could only be described as bit-part players at best. The team was competitive at the end of last season, the players have improved with few exceptions from this time last year and the squad could not reasonably be described as being a Championship squad at this time.

Should the team kick off the season with no changes, we could expect it to compete with the majority of Prem teams and achieve a finishing position around mid-table.

I’m not advocating this is the ideal approach, but it’s inconceivable we won’t bring in at least one player to improve the squad, therefore we shouldn’t panic or stress over the lack of incomings at this time.

That said, the current situation is not ideal and you do wonder what’s going on behind the scenes, particularly with Rafa’s contract situation which is undoubtedly affecting all other aspects of our Summer business.

I didn’t make the same mistake as I have in previous years by thinking this transfer window might be different.

Nothing will ever change until Mike ‘cancer’ Ashley goes. I wouldn’t wish death upon him but let’s just say I would be more happy than sad if he passed away lol.

Work’s not being to unkind with the fixtures, we’re managing to get the last twenty minutes of the four o clock game and getting the evening game, will be back home in time for the business end which is the last game. Not sure whether to watch Spain Morocco or Portugal Iran. Iceland Crotia or Nigeria Argentina is a tricky one as well.

Jail @4 – Nice bit of detective work there.
As we know the blog is full of people having spats and petty squabbles but as I’ve said before it can be quite entertaining. However I really don’t see the point of popping up as random single name posters just to have a pop at people when we all know who is behind it and not fooled for 1 minute!
