Rafa Zones In On This Defender To Replace Mbemba

There are reports in France from Get French Football News (via Yahoo Sports) that Newcastle are interested in signing 25-year-old Toulouse central defender Christopher Jullien.

Southampton are already after the 6ft 5ins defender and Newcastle seem to have joined the race for a player who will cost about £9M.

It seems that Julian could be the replacement for Chancel Mebmba – always assuming Newcastle can finally get that deal over the finishing line.

25-year-old Toulouse central defender Christopher Jullien

The 25-year-old played for the U20 French side but has no more International caps at any level.

Jullian joined Toulouse two years ago from SC Freiburg where he had stayed for three years after signing on from Auxerre back in 2013.

He’s played 73 times for Toulouse with 7 goals and 4 assists and last season he played 36 games with 2 goals and 3 assists.

If we can get £8M from Porto that will go a long way towards the fee for Jullian and those transfer fees could even cancel each other out.

Given that Rafa doesn’t seem to rate Mbemba this could be a good move for Newcastle.

Jullian could become the fourth center-back for next season and brought in mainly with the money we get for Chancel Mbemba.

His wages will also be less than those of Mbemba.

Comments welcome.

Ben Gibson is who we need. Lascelles and Gibson – what a pairing that would be. You have named dozens of players linked to Nufc – where is the Gibson link ???

If Charnley can’t even get Sels off the books after god knows how many weeks, then signing this guy or any others is never going to happen!

If they want players off the payroll, then so be it, get them off at wherever price they can get – pi$$ing about over relative coppers achieves nothing.

    This guy “Jullien

This guy “Jullien” won’t want to come here as a bench warmer so who will make way for him? He w.ll cost 2 Mill more than we get from the Mbemba sale and will be on higher wages, surely this is a no brainer IMO Mbemba is a good back up

West Ham interested in Jack Wilshere.

That’s another one to cross off the made up list of false targets. No chance can we compete with an absolutely huge club like erm West Ham

West Ham have long been associated with taking the top clubs’ cast offs. It’s been a long time since they actually went looking for top talent themselves, in my opinion.

They end up paying top wages for players who have not quite made the grade or are often injured, then wonder why they can’t break into the top 6.

I’d prefer us to go fishing in fresh pools and find the next generation of top Premier League talent.

We paid £5M for Mats Sels
He made 32 appearances for Anderlecht
He was in Belgium’s preliminary squad for
the 2018 World Cup in Russia

To say we are pi$$ing about over relative coppers
shows how dim some posters are.

I think there is a huge leap from ‘being interested in’ to making a bid for all these players.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Rafa has made enquiries for some players in terms of contacting their club to suss out availability, wages, fees and so on and passed this information to Charnley. But that’s as far as I believe all of these stories as I seriously doubt Ashley is letting Charnley act on any incoming transfers until Rafa’s contract is signed.

Like we stand a chance of getting him anyway.

Board aren’t prepared to pay his wages for a start.

Apparently the Argentinians aren’t happy about their World Cup defeat to Croatia.

According to Maradonna it seems like they couldn’t “handle” the situation.

    Ah now then.
Darrell Banks – Open the Door to Your Heart.
    Lovely song, like it.

Homer Banks – A Lot Of Love.
A Northern Soul stomper. Another good one.

Could imagine Sam Moore doing cracking versions of both.

Perhaps there are only two types of music.
Bad and Good. Various bits in between.

Sels is only 26 which is really young for a keeper and he’s obviously quite talented. He’s had a better season now than when we bought him for 5m. Think he just had a high profile error with us then lost his confidence. I could even see him forcing his way back into contention if he stays. Someone should be willing to pay a lot more than £2m surely. He’d walk into almost all Championship teams for starters.

    The next Mike Williamson,
I think it was more than just an error that got to him, I don’t think he could handle the big stage. He seemed to get worse as we got better, he was keeping clean sheets so should have been getting more confident every week, just looking back he’d kept five in a row before losing to Wolves, yet by the Villa game he was a nervous wreck, his nerves completely unsettled the team that day and almost cost us the game, that was his last in the league if I remember rightly.

If we are desperate to get sels off the books then why haggle over £500k? Perhaps include a percentage sell on clause or something. It’s really silly to want someone out for what is very little in football terms. We can’t value him very much either if we only want £2.25m for him.

He did look overawed and I think it was a big mistake recalling him for a high proile game such as that Hull cup game. But keepers can bounce back. Wasn’t it said Dubravka had a shocking start to his Prague career?

A championship club could afford approx £25,000 a week

West Ham is the footballers graveyard. Now that Villa and Sunderland have vanished they must be rubbing their hands with all that unrivalled access to the contents of the Big-6s rubbish bins.

Dig. I couldn’t imagine this guy wanting to play 3rd choice either but how do you know Rafa doesn’t think he can bring him in for £10m and sell Lascelles for £50m and use that money to buy Messi (we might have a chance of getting him after this world cup although he might prefer West Ham haha)

I think Sels would be a better number 2 than Darlow or Elliot, and while I’m about it, you don’t bracket Johnny Cash with Buddy Holly or Jerry Lee Lewis. You bracket him with Elvis, Hank Williams and Chuck Berry.

So Jibberish lives in Benidorm yet speaks Basque, one of the most obscure pre Indo-European languages that has a lot of linguists baffled as to it’s origins. A bit like a Spanish speaker moving to Bristol and automatically being able to speak Welsh.

I can appreciate iate the phenomenon of having a distinct aversion to genres of music others love.

For me, Reggae requires Ganja to dull the pain of hearing it and Country & Western? What were they thinking? Importing the stupid idea of Swiss yodelling is tragic in itself but counterpoint it with a slide guitar is like an air raid warning coupled with cats fighting.
