Rafa Back In Newcastle – Key Meeting With Hierarchy – Expect Flurry Of Bids

Rafa Benitez is back in Newcastle getting ready for preseason training which starts next Monday.

Rafa was seen at St. James’ Park today where fans flocked around him as he was going to a meeting in the stadium.

Benitez is apparently to meet with the club’s hierarchy according to the Chronicle.

It could be that some agreement on targets is expected at the meeting so Newcastle can go after their top targets and hopefully get a couple of players signed before Monday.

That’s certainly what is needed at the moment.

And the manager would not be drawn on transfers with fans – which is hardly surprising.

Rafa Benitez – arriving at St. James’ Park

Apparently, the manager was surrounded by lots of (adoring)  fans who asked for his autograph and pictures; the fans pleaded with him to stay at the club.

If Rafa stays at Newcastle, it’s because of our great fans and City – and not the owner.

The transfer window seems to have been a bit of a bust so far this summer, and we are now expected to lose young Spanish star Mikel Merino this week to Real Sociedad for his release clause of £10M.

But the dismal situation is nothing that cannot be put right by a couple of new signings before Monday.

The meeting may also address Rafa’s contract situation and there has been precious little news on Rafa’s potential new contract lately.

It’s good to see the boss back on Tyneside and Rafa has lots of work to do before the season kicks off on August 11th when we play Spurs at St. James’ Park.

Comments welcome.

If it’s about transfers then it would have been a very short meeting. Everyone else is buying. But we don’t even have a bid in for anyone. What a joke we are under Ashley.

Jib – to continue your discussion on National teams in our leagues I can’t agree with about the likes of Switzerland being Championship level but I do think they would struggle in the Premiership!

Season Ticket renewal deadline has been extended to 3rd July.

    Wonder why that is?!

At least this one has an air of anticipation about it,and…..a “flurry of bids” must be the collective noun, like a murder of crows or a mischief of mice or a frustration of Ashleys.

Just speculating. People saying we’re waiting for Tv money to be paid on the 1st of July and then club extend ST renewals to the 3rd. Could be nothing but never say never

This is the meeting where “the hierarchy” tells Rafa they have good news and bad news. The good news is that as Mike Ashley has promised, you can have every dime the club generates for transfers. The bad news is that the books have been adjusted such that the club will always appear to be in debt or barely solvent…

Micky, thanks mate – that narrows it down. It must be the Chinese / Russians / Americans / Saudis / London Jewish / Geordies then

    😉

I’m very aware that I’ve been speculating wildly over the last few weeks, making circumstances fit the solution which is never a good plan. I’m also very aware that the season may well start with Bishop and Barnes taking their seats at SJP and still no contract agreement from Rafa. Finally, I’m even more aware that my conviction stems from a huge desire for change which colours rational thought.

But I dunno, the timings have all been very coincidental. Once is happenstance, twice is circumstance, the third is definite action.

Rafa turning up today of all days, after going quiet immediately after his interview and with Dubravka having signed his deal when he said he would only do so when Rafa’s future was secured…

Season Ticket renewal deadline has been extended to 3rd July? Renewals going a bit too slow? Might that suggest some squad strengthening might be in order to stimulate interest?

Do we not think a transfer budget and player targets have been finalised by now.If there meeting today for this very reason then we are royally screwed.
But don’t fret lads it’s nearly the 1st and Ashley will come to the fore then and show that ambition we a crave for.

“”Rather than take ownership of a situation they knew was likely to unfold, Newcastle’s inaction has only added to the sense of drift which has taken hold of the club this summer. Merino’s exit may be unavoidable, but the messy way in which it has been handled most certainly was.””

    Chicousa.

This business of being in debt or barely solvent surely has a lot to do with the fact that Ashley pays up front for players he buys, while taking payment for those we sell in instalments.
No wonder there’s little ready cash for the manager to spend on new players.

As for ed’s preference for Kenedy on loan rather than Loftus Cheek, I’d have to respectfully disagree with him there. That Loftus is the real deal.

Today could be a day on which Rafa informs Penfold he is going to ride out his contract and leaving on account of promises bieng broken.

Today could be the day when it is announced that the club is under new ownership and sold.

Today could be a day when we hear late on that Rafa has resigned.

Nothing would surprise me because of our slave trader dictator of an owner.

Jail, I suggested months ago that we’d struggle to sign the players we wanted because of FFP limitations on player wage rises. I also suggested that this was probably impacted by the season we spent in the Champo.

Is it, then, beyond the realms of possibility that the club have looked at the wage liability from the last couple of seasons and inflated it or at least exaggerated it in order that they avoid FFP penalties now or in the future?

Please don’t go off on one and call me an apologist or a Mackem as I’m neither. I do, however, prefer to look at all possible reasons for something happening and consider them equally.

Ed was enthusiastic about the prospect of taking Loftus Cheek on loan and the words of Roy Hodgson come to mind: He said something to the effect of if the lad becomes available again, he’ll have the begging bowl out to borrow him for another season at Crystal Palace..

The begging bowl? And Newcastle United could also be reduced to holding out the begging bowl? It just shows how much Ashley’s devalued our club!

Deciding on our transfer targets now? I don’t believe a word of it. Rafa would have made his list as soon as the season was over and constantly reviewed it. He would have expected at least a couple of players in by now. In a normal club with a decent owner we would have those players. Just another example of the total incompetence at the top of NUFC.

Who exactly is the club’s hierarchy?

Charnley’s employed by the club as Ashley’s gofor with little or no authority. Bishop and Barnes seem to be paid on a consultancy basis while Ashley, our absentee owner, doesn’t care about anything other than his ego and money.

So, if Rafa has met the hierarchy, he’ll have been told what he can’t have and err, asked when he’s going to sign the new contract that’s been on offer for weeks, the contract offer that’s been the subject of discussion with Charnley unable and Ashley unwilling to offer to meet Rafa’s vision for the club.

Ashley has never forgot the furore from the time Keegan walked… blames Newcastle Supporters.. he put a statement out saying he and his family had been threatened, death threats , all lies from Ashley .

No one stopped to ask him , was it in a letter Ash ? , this threat , or did some Newcastle fan whisper in your ear ?

I knew then we were owned by a swine with no affinity towards Newcastle United football club and it’s supporters.

    Nothings changed.

Well said Online Guy. He is a lying swing. Everything Keegan said about him was true and is true. Surely we can at least sell a few players and get some crumbs together for one decent incoming? Is that too much to ask from the lounge lizard at the top?
