Newcastle Spring A Surprise With Potential Second Signing Imminent – Fans Flock To Twitter

It looks very much like Newcastle’s second signing of the summer will be South Korea captain Ki Sung-yueng.

His Swansea contract runs out tomorrow and Newcastle will sign him as a free agent.

Reports say the 29-year-old has already passed his medical at Newcastle.

We like the way Newcastle have kept quiet about this deal and he’s an experienced Premier League player who plays in defensive midfield and could be a direct replacement for Mikel Merino.

The 6ft 2ins midfielder was at Celtic before he signed on for the Swans for £6M six years ago.

He’s a savvy signing by Rafa with Everton and AC Milan other clubs after the free agent.

Here are some comments about the potential transfer that looks very close to being completed.

The Italian media thinks he is signing for Newcastle.

Froma Swansea fan.

But it’s not all about the money you spend – it’s about the players you sign – Everton had a terrible record last summer and last season.

Newcastle have signed South Korean international Ki Sung-Yeung from Swansea. The midfielder has signed a two-year deal on a free transfer.

Max Meyer is in a free this summer, Milan badelj. Would you turn your nose up at them too since they are just free transfers? The fee doesn’t make the player.

Just a hunch but with KSY being 29 and over the 26/28 year old age limit we’ve had in recent times, this may have been a signing pushed forward by Rafa.

Screams bargain bin Ashley classic – but I do think this is a savvy signing. Whenever I’ve watched him play he’s been very technical and tidy. Would be a good player alongside Shelvey if needed.

Reality is he’s a sure replacement for Merino as third choice. Not adverse to that at all, IF the Merino money goes straight back into the purchase of a striker in addition to Mitrovice money circa £30m – £35m. Unfortunately we all know that won’t happen as selling both Mitrovic and Merino on installements will leave us more likely with £10 mill to go to a striker max. Slowly but surely downgrading our squad value.

There’s some very good players who are out of contract nothing wrong with signing a freebie at all.

As for this signing which has now been confirmed on Sky sports. Very good player technically and on a free it’s a great move. I’ve seen a few people moaning about it but there’s a reason AC Milan were amongst the teams very interested in him. Well played Rafa.

This now proves that we have zero idea who are targets are because this was kept very quiet. I suppose it’s a positive.

2 very decent signings so far imo.

That was a quick bit of business. I haven’t seen much of him, but apparently he is a tidy passer and likes to play forward passes… looks like he will be cover for Shelvey, which was desperately needed. Maybe now we don’t have to panic as much if Shelvey gets an injury or suspension. Quite looking forward to seeing him play.

Unexpected! But don’t knock it just cos he’s on a free! It’s a Rafa signing anyway and I’m happy but we’ve gotta spend on a top goalscorer!

It’s not all about getting free transfers or spending what ever on players its about improving the team from last season which I don’t think fat mike will do cheap and cheerful will do. Let’s just see who’s next then

I was just reading an article about Sung-yong Ki from 2016 when Arsenal were showing interest. Judging by these quotes, I don’t think he will be coming content to be on the bench. A good sign, ultimately.

    Ki statement
‘Ki, who has returned to his homeland for a summer break following a classy season with Swansea City told reporters how he was revelling in the fact that he may have caught the eye at big clubs, but also made it clear that he was only focused on playing for a side where he was guaranteed first-team football.

“It’s meaningful if a big club pays attention to me and I think this happened because of my performance this season,” Ki said, as relayed by the South Wales Evening Post.

“The best team for me is the team where I can play on the field.”
