Ki Sung-yueng Turned Down AC Milan To Join Newcastle

TEAMtalk are reporting today that Ki Sung-yueng turned down an offer from AC Milan so he could join Newcastle United.

One reason for that seems to be that he was keen to stay in England and keep playing in the Premier League after Swansea were relegated in May.

And the free agent will get that PL football with Newcastle.

But he also said he was always impressed when he visited St, James’ Park by the passion of the Newcastle fans.

It was a shock yesterday when our interest in the player surfaced in the press only a few hours before the club announced he had signed.

That’s the way to do transfers, and now Newcastle hopefully will have some momentum in the transfer market.

Rafa will also be able to meet Managing Director Lee Charnley face to face as they go after Rafa’s targets this summer but also sell players who are now surplus to requirements.

This is what Rafa said yesterday about Ki:

“I’m pleased to welcome Ki to the club. He is a player with lots of Premier League and international experience and it was an easy decision to bring him here,”

“He is the captain of his country, a good character and he will be a good addition to the squad.”

The 29-year-old himself seemed delighted to be joining a Rafa led Newcastle United:

“I’m so pleased I can join the club.”

“I was always pleasantly surprised when I came to St James’ Park to play against Newcastle .”

“There is a great atmosphere and the passion from the fans is a great support to the players.”

“Everyone knows how big this club is so I’m really looking forward to playing with my team-mates and for the fans.”

That’s the new home strip Ki is wearing in the photograph.

Looks nice and clean.

Comments welcome.

I was going to mention this earlier
In my daily check of Euro media the
Italian press are full of amazement that
any player would choose NUFC over
    their wonderful AC Milan.

I would imagine KSY will be allowed some time off before linking up with the squad for pre-season?

Jib as well as wanting to stay in the PL assuming he has a family I would imagine his kids speak English and in our school system which is another good reason for not going to Milan.

I tell you Man City seem to be letting go of some good youngsters. Jose Angelino at left back already gone (would have liked him here), manu Garcia supposedly being let go and Thierry ambrose looking to leave.

I was just thinking (dangerous I know) as footballers have to take their holidays now – do they all get fined for taking their kids out of school? I guess they can afford it!

Why are fans complaining about this signing he’s a decent player specially for a free transfer good cover for shelvey and Mo and if Moreno leaves we would of had to buy a holding midfielder anyway would fans rather we spent 20 mill on a holding midfielder? I’d rather keep our budget for a striker winger and no 10

Rushing to renew my season ticket with this signing. Cannot wait for next signing any more Sunderland rejects on a free, Rodwell is available.
If this is a sign of things to come what about a reduction in season ticket prices instead of extra £100.
