Latest Striker Target Seems Too Expensive For Newcastle

Newcastle are being linked with 25-year-old Nice striker Alassane Plea, who scored 21 goals in 48 games for Nice last season.

But in the previous three seasons, he scored only 23 goals in 96 appearances, so he hit the heights for the first time last season.

He is said to be attracting interest from at least four other Premier League clubs – Everton, Spurs, Fulham and West Ham and some offers have been tabled for him already.

25-year-old Nice striker Alassane Plea

The Sun are reporting that Spurs put in a £23M bid for him last month and if that’s the case Newcastle will have little chance of signing the French striker – he would be too expensive.

That’s assuming the Sun report is accurate.

West Ham appear to be the club most anxious to sign him, and we have no idea who Rafa’s top striker choices are for this summer.

But it will not be Nicolai Jorgensen who looked nothing like a £20M striker for Denmark in the World Cup.

Danny Ings is available from Liverpool for a reported £9M, and he would be less of a risk than Plea who would need to adjust to the Premier League.

We would expect Rafa to be interested in Danny because of the reasonable fee and that he has been after the former Burnley striker for over a year now and must rate him.

If the news that Plea would cost £25M from Nice is true we don’t think Newcastle will be able to compete.

But we’ve been wrong before – just once or twice.

🙂

I’m sure he was linked with us a couple seasons ago. Then again, most of France were back then!

Ah, the French Michael Ricketts. No thank you. One season does not a striker make.

London is by population of French nationals the fifth largest French City.
That’s before the London clubs such as the state subsidised West Spam and mega bucks soon to be relocated to Wembley Fulham start flashing the cash.
Easy to see why French players a la Cabaye can get their heads turned.
Let us concentrate on players who want to play football, develop their careers and make themselves a name in the football capital that is Newcastle.

I appreciate your comment was made in jest, but it’s actually correct, I for one don’t see him as a step up from Joselu.

If we get Plea for a reasonable fee, does that make him a Plea bargain?

Maybe he could help Charmless out with the HMRC…

I just hope we spend wisely, Jorgensen was a strange option tbh then along came Joselu a cheaper option on Rafa’s list.
I’m sure Rafa will know what he Wants, we need a player to score us goals.

Still something weird ongoing at the club. No players sold (ie no assets released), only inbound either pre-budgeted (Dubs) or covered by the wages freed by the players already released (Ki Sung Yeung). I’ve seen no evidence to say we’re definitely not in financial lock-down.

Also, although the club has issued confirmation of the Ki deal via the website and Rafa has welcomed him via his personal website, it’s hardly a torrent of communication is it? Where’s the press conference with Rafa and Ki taking questions which you would normally expect when a player signs? I’m not sure but it feels like there is still an ongoing communications blackout.

I may be wrong and reading too much into things, it just seems very quiet still.

Also, various of our ‘targets’ seem to have been conspicuously absent from the media recently – Sean Mcloughlin, Ozyakup, Christopher Jullien for eg. You’d expect their agents to be pushing them into the limelight, trying to secure them transfers but nothing has been heard on any of them for a number of weeks as far as I know.

    Rolando

I think Traore for Ritchie would be far more exciting than Ritchie for Townsend.
I will always have mixed feelings and doubts about AT and wouldn’t be heartbroken if Ritchie goes.
Just comparing Ritchie’s PL and championship stats is quite illuminating. Horses for courses comes to mind with Gayle in the same bracket.

Some people don’t like loans but I think it is absolutely ideal, especially when you have an option to buy at the end.
How many duds have we bought outright in the past.

#cfc are in talks with #nufc over departure of Kenedy. A loan with option to buy has been discussed. Chelsea are asking for £20m+ which is why Newcastle are looking to loan first. But fact Chelsea are open to negotiations suggests he’s not part of their plans.

Just as an aside, looks like Wilshere could be off to Fenerbahce. Seems like a waste to me, he still has plenty to offer the PL when fit. Surely a team like Wolves could use him, although Fenerbahce would presumably offer him Champs League.

id have traore first choice. but we’d need a more defensive fullback like Dawson. martoon, if we get Kennedy either atsu or murphy has to go. not much between them. speedy wingers with no end product are easy to come by in France or Africa and they usually sell for a premium to the epl.

Could the so called bid for Jorgensen have been to establish what it would cost to replace him, if Fulham were trying to get a buy option on Mitro?

Rob @17 – You don’t often get a press conference for the signing of a player these days unless it is a really big one. Normally just photos, an interview and social media outputs which there was. I’d love you to be right but think you might be making 2 + 2 = 5!

@Rob at 17. can’t see anything happening until a few of our players are sold, we haven’t the spaces for any new signings.
Re news blackout, I have had concerns about this since the end of last season. However, I believe last summer was the same or at least simular with nothing coming from the club.

Can only hope that Rafa future is sorted soon, then we can relax and look forward to a good season as believe Rafa will be backed with his demands being agreed to.

@ Lindisfarne, the fact we actually put a bid in for him is worrying, regardless what the bid was be it 12m or 15m, have seen nothing that warrants even a look at him. He does not look like a Rafa type of player and can only be seen as a recommendation from someone outside the club.
So pleased we didn’t get him.

I take the point you and a couple of others have made that the club’s silence is deafening.

Whilst there may be something happening behind the scenes, I wouldn’t have thought that would prevent an official website statement about Ki.

A daft thought…… if anyone, in this instance the club, didn’t want to invite controversy, it’d be easier to say nothing.

That seems incredibly cowardly, though – and certainly not in keeping with Ashley’s boorishness. He doesn’t appear to give much of a foot about courting controversy

    oldgit,
I think you’re looking at things with rafa tinted glasses. when people said Jorgensen wasn’t fit to clean mitrovic’s boots we were all told mitro wasnt a rafa type of player and jorgensen was. jorgensen is good at holding up the ball, good at following instructions, works hard for the team, and has good technique. in other words he’s exactly like joselu (who everybody says is a “rafa type of player”) the fact is rafa wanted this guy. he wouldn’t have just bid £15m on somebody elses say so without knowing the player. he’s too thourough for that.
