It’s So Vital Newcastle Sell Their Unwanted Players Quickly

Newcastle duo Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley have another massive transfer window this summer, and let’s hope it turns out like the one two years ago.

Rafa and Lee made some great buys and sales in that summer, and we even ended up with over £30M in profits.

This may be a similar kind of window and the £40M to £50M Rafa will get up front from Mike Ashley has been termed only moderate (to small) by some.

But this window really depends on how quickly some of our superfluous players can be sold.

Newcastle’s transfer duo – Lee Charnley and Rafa Benitez

The transfer money Rafa gets for selling players he can use to bring other players in.

And it seems the club is in full flight now having apparently agreed on a deal where Chancel Mbemba will soon move to Porto for £7M.

Fulham also say they have an agreement in principle to buy Aleksandar Mitrovic and Rafa knows it’s in his and Newcastle’s best interests to get these deals done quickly.

But he will not take any risks and first he wants a striker brought in before he will allow Mitrovic to leave – he’s not daft.

And we half expect him to bring in two strikers this summer.

If Rafa can get £7M for Mbemba, £2M for Sels, £5M for Colback, £11M for Merino and £20M for Mitrovic that’s an extra £45M he has to spend.

It’s not chicken-feed.

That gets close to £100M in total, and while that’s nowhere near what the top six PL clubs can spend, it’s at least competitive with what the other (lesser) Premier League clubs will have for their budgets.

Other players who could be sold this summer include Henri Saivet and Rolando Aarons – and even Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle if Newcastle can line up better players to come in to replace them.

And we hear that £40M-£50M could become more if Rafa signs along the dotted line for a long-term stay on Tyneside.

Oh yes – what a dream that is for fans!

As long as we can sell players quickly this summer, we could end up having a good transfer window with adequate money available to (vastly) improve the squad.

That’s our hope in any case.

Comments welcome.

Juve have bid £88M for Christiano Ronaldo

    http://www.skysports.com/football/news/12961/11426155/real-madrid-consider-88m-bid-for-cristiano-ronaldo-from-juventus

That would free space in their squad for them to buy Mbappe.

I thought Floyd Mayweather was buying Newcastle and bringing Ronaldo here?

    😉

So, reportedly kenedy is available this summer for £20m or thereabouts. Either sign him this summer we’ve been told or if we loan him we have to agree to sign him for £30m next summer.

Bobby…..wife and I were in Kendal at the back end of last week and at times the temperature was up in the late 30s!! Parked the car and walked over a bridge on the Lune river. There were kids and folks with dogs having a whale of a time in the cool flowing water. It was idyllic! Jeepers, lapsed into Keats mode there for a moment!!

Just read, that in Ireland there is such a water shortage that a local swimming baths had to close lane 7 and 8.

If those figures are correct – I say if because you never know with Ashley – then that’s a decent amount that will probably be more than most of those around us. Nothing like the big boys with sugar daddies get to spend, but enough to keep us competitive. Let’s hope it’s enough to keep Rafa happy.
As for incoming players I’m not persuaded by the links in the press. You’re not allowed a squad of a hundred players even if we could afford one. I’m happy to wait and see who comes through the door before deciding if I’m happy with them or not. Not that it matters who I’m happy with, as long as Rafa is. He picks the team, he knows the players he realistically wants to improve the team. Not sure any of those were linked with are genuinely targets because he likes to keep his targets quiet – like KSY, nobody saw that coming.
Let’s, see who comes in. Could be an interesting summer.

Tosun, nowt like a paddle in a burn to cool off on a hot day. The water in the Lakes rivers is always cold and refreshing. Chuck the kids in with their pants on, make them walk the rest of the way commando. Character building.

I bet the rivers are getting low now though, given the lack of rain.

Still nothing from the club or Rafa (I think the players have either been sworn to secrecy or don’t know either)….

You gotta wonder what’s happening – cos I suspect something is.

Micky, I’m pleased you said it – I’ve been boring myself, let alone you lot, with my theories. Totally agree, though – it’s like that Bjork song, I’m just waiting for the riot to start.

Now we’ve got x 3 outbound players with transfers agreed in principle – Mbemba, Merino and Mitro – so who knows what’s holding things up. Also, if we have these 3 outbounds waiting on a button to be pressed, who knows how many inbounds we have lined up.

How the hell you have the nerve to motivate for Ashley and his approach to NUFC and its fans, beats me.

You argue that STs are among the cheapest and yes that may be so. But, in life isn’t it generally the case that one gets what one pays for? Are you suggesting that Ashley’s offering cheaper tickets to afford our fans to watch better teams than the one they support? If you think the greedy git’s offering cheaper tickets out of the goodness of his heart, you need to really need to wake up.

And as far as the club’s generosity towards the foodbank’s concerned, of course it should contribute to the wider community and that’s good business – as far as I know and I trust you realise that charitable donations actually benefit businesses by way of tax breaks!

Sorry to disagree about the 084 number call charges, but as Martoon said, they could use geographic numbers such as 034s or even 0191s. And you argue that by using an 084, they’re being dissuasive? What bollocks. Would Ashley increase SD’s retail prices to dissuade potential customers from buying?

Have you not thought that the players NUFC
are going to buy are still in Russia and not allowed to
    talk to agents.
    Which narrows it down to
    Uruguay
    France
    England
    Sweden
    Belgium
    Croatia
    Brazil

Nobody needs anybody fighting their corner tbh. We’re all capable of making a decision ourselves. You want to buy a ticket, buy one. If you don’t don’t, don’t. 50k choose to buy one every home game. Nobody twists their arm, it’s a choice they make being fully aware of the situation.
Then again, anybody is perfectly free to stand outside SJP and shout abuse at those going in instead of doing it from behind a keyboard. No? Thought not.

You’re spot on in saying that it’s an individual’s prerogative to buy match tickets or not and as you rightly say, many thousands do and such loyalty is to be applauded and is universally recognised. It’s just a pity that Ashley wouldn’t take more than a financial interest in the club and back it by matching Rafa’s ambition for it and thus sign him up and fully provide the support he’d need

Real Madrid are considering an offer of around 100m euros (£88m) from Juventus for 33year old Cristiano Ronaldo.

Well Charners me old fruit don’t stress yourself on this one as he’s way past his sell by date and would just be another Michael Owen.
