Rafa Could Still Return For Nicolai Jorgensen This Summer

In January Feyenoord played hardball with Newcastle over our top striker target in the January transfer window.

Nicolai Jorgensen was available but at €20M (£17.7M) and Mike Ashley would not cough up the cash to buy him.

That now seems like the right decision.

Most fans were wondering at the time how he would fit into Newcastle’s style of quick breakaways since he’s not a fast player by any means and he’s not a prolific goalscorer either.

But for some reason Rafa liked what he saw – and we don’t mean that to be derogatory in any way.

Rafa often sees skills in players he can bring out with his excellent coaching at Newcastle.

But after the World Cup in Russia, it seems to have all backfired for Jorgensen and for Feyenoord with Newcastle now looking at other targets.

Nicolai Jorgensen – will Rafa still go after him?

Jorgensen did not impress at all in Russia, with the best part of his game probably being his hold up play but didn’t look much of an improvement on Joselu.

Rafa could still go after Jorgensen but only if he can get an excellent deal on the player – something less than £10M and that’s unlikely to happen.

Maybe even a loan deal with an option to buy – but that will depend on which strikers we bring in permanently this summer.

There’s little risk in a loan deal for Rafa, and if Nicolai doesn’t play well that’s one season gone by, and we don’t waste too much money on him.

The 27-year-old was desperate to join Newcastle in January with reports we would double his wages – but that’s all water under the Tyne Bridge now.

The news from the Northern Echo is that Rafa still admires Jorgensen both as a player and as a good character.

And we know Rafa always looks for good characters in the players he signs for Newcastle.

As we have seen in the last two seasons, that’s so important for team spirit and the lads give everything both in training and in games.

It’s what Newcastle fans love to see from the team.

We’ll have to see if Rafa goes back for Jorgensen, but it would be a surprise at this point – maybe a loan deal is the only real possibility?

Comments welcome.

Dubai – agreed. Colback is an absolute disgrace. I bet we’re not asking a lot for him, but it’s the wages. You’d think that pride alone would make him move. Also, playing golf and dipping your ginger nuts in tea must be boring after a while.

I don’t think Rafa’d be asking for control of the keys – he surely wouldn’t expect carte blanche to do as he will without constraint.

Working within a business framework is essential – especially when it’s someone else’s money at risk – but surely what Rafa’s asking for is a statement of ambition, a vision, from Ashley rather than the seeming day-to-day management that Ashley’s imposing. Were Ashley to share Rafa’s vision in principle, the strategy, the how to can be mapped out and agreed – subject of course to necessary variation depending on circumstances. As you know, that’s how good business works as long as long as there’s trust between all stakeholders.

Rafa’s demonstrated he can work with financial constraints and I’m sure he would do so – provided there’s constructive dialogue between him, via Ashley’s credible, delegated subordinates and Rafa. As long as Rafa can understand why change can’t happen then I’m sure all’s be well. It appears that Rafa doesn’t trust Ashley to keep his word and it’s up to Ashley to change that and build a successful partnership – and deliver a club that actually deserves the devote fans it’s got. At the moment, Ashley doesn’t deserve them.

RobLeenio I think, referred to Rafa being a gift to Ashley, and yes he was but the big mistake he’s making is kicking his gift horse in the mouth, kicking its teeth out.

so many teams desperate for a striker. everton, Southampton, west ham, fulham, us. plus others. they wont all find one so will be desperate by the end of window. we should sell mitro then. i would seriously.consider ramirez from everton. hes probably the least shxt striker weve been linked with. personally i think it will be tammy plus a fast one from france. they have at least 100 new mbappes kicking about.

I’ve posted on this blog for at Least 6 years, my name has been discussed more than once.

The first guy I talked about it with was Expat, it’s tounge in cheek, a play on words, was optimistic prime.

I’m optimistic Ashley will sell Nufc before I die, that’s about as far as it goes.

Im too long in the tooth, if it’s raining I look up to make sure someone isn’t pi55ing on my head!

Jorgenson is the Danish version of Joselu but doesn’t seem to work as hard. If Rafa watched the World Cup he’ll know he’s nowhere near prem standard. I think he’ll stay well away or atleast I hope so anyway. Rather have Titus Bramble upfront

Interesting news out of Burnley – Ben Mee is resisting signing a new contract and is out of contract next Summer.

He’d be immense alongside Lascelles or Lejeune

when recruitment of striker’s are concerned what a struggle . We could do with the Mils wasted on Joselu, 20 mil could have been wasting on Jorgensen. Surely we learnt a lesson on how lucky a miss that was. I understand that we’re a broken club, or at least MA has us believing so.
I far rather we stuck with what we have, unless we are buying a better replacement.

I rate Ben Mee, think he is a proper defender and a huge reason why Keane and tarkowski looked good at Burnley. I’ve said we don’t have anyone to step in for lascelles if/when he gets injured or suspended. Ben Mee would be ideal competition for me.

    Jorgenson, ditto what Charlie said.

Stoke want to pay Ritchie £75K a week, that’s so funny but good luck to him, I reckon it will bite them in the bum though as I don’t see them coming back up for a few years,if ever.

its seems we are looking for a big sh*te guy who has one skill. holding the ball up. surely any big overweight b*stard can do that. id much rather a striker who scores and creates goals. we might as well play a defender upfront. they can tackle. theyre strong. they win headers. they can close the opposition down and theyre cheap. if goals dont matter why buy a striker?

Joselu is a “player” the money could have been put towards a good player imo. Maybe the difference between been able to sign a better option now.
. Why isn’t he for sale? Bet we couldn’t get our money back.

Currently KI is better than Merino in every way and if Merino wants to go back to sunny Spain and not fight for his place then fair enough !

Merino showed glimpses of potential in a few games KI has actually ran games at premiership and international level for quite a few seasons him and Shelvey were pretty good together as well so I don’t view this as an issue!

Its only an issue if Sociedad are paying something daft like 5 installments of 2 million so Rafa gets nothing towards his budget for this season……..

If you need a average or base line to look at Ashleys tenure at Nufc look no further than Colback!

At the time he signed I posted that I couldn’t understand why we’d sign a less than average player like Colback even if he was free, hed never get in the team over players in the squad or bairns coming through.

Total donkey who needs a kick in the ass.

Wearside Jack is struggling for a game in the championship, i bet it’s breaking Ashleys heart, but the five pound profit he gets will cushion the blow.
