Newcastle are said to be short of money to spend this summer, and one of Rafa’s highest priorities is to have 22-year-old Brazilian U23 International Kenedy playing again for Newcastle this coming season.
The addition of both Kenedy and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on loan in January made us a much better side and the two players helped us survive last season – and even prosper.
There’s news in the Telegraph that Newcastle are getting closer to getting almost the perfect deal agreed to sign Kenedy – a season-long loan with an option to buy.
Kenedy and Rafa Benitez – an excellent working relationship between the two men
Rafa tried for that last summer and again in January, but Chelsea’s manager Antonio Conte would not include the option to buy clause.
Now it seems they are willing to do that.
The perfect scenario is Rafa improves the player even more by next summer, and we sign him for something like £20M or less – when presumably we’ll then have the cash available.
Here’s an extract from the Telegraph report that’s good news if it’s accurate:
“There is some better news for Newcastle supporters, though, as they edge closer to signing Brazilian winger Kenedy from Chelsea.”
“As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Kenedy’s return after a successful loan spell has been another of Benitez’ priorities this summer and hopes are rising that terms can be agreed with Chelsea.”
“As things stand, it seems likely the 22-year-old will return to Newcastle on a season’s loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of it.”
“That would suit the Magpies, who are trying to make the most of a small budget at St James’ Park.”
If Rafa can pull this one off, it will be really great news for fans – the lad is already immensely popular on Tyneside because of his class.
And he’s also trying to get Andros Townsend back from Crystal Palace but if Andros returns it’s likely that Matt Ritchie will leave.
That’s not exactly good news for a lot of Newcastle fans with Matt very popular on Tyneside.
We really hope we can get Kenedy back for next season.
