Spain are looking for a new manager after a very poor World Cup.
But they fired their manager Julen Lopetegui when they found out he had been negotiating with Real Madrid and would leave the Spanish job immediately following the World Cup.
He got the Real job to replace Zinedine Zidane who surprisingly left the club after winning three Champions Leagues in a short two and a half years in Madrid.
And the Newcastle manager is on the short list to replace Julen Lopetegui according to the Express.
Rafa Benitez – arriving at Benton on Friday
Also being considered for the job are Belgium’s Spanish boss Roberto Martinez and Quique Sanchez Flores, who is out of a job after recently managing Watford and Espanyol.
Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique seems like the best choice Spain could make.
But the hierarchy made a right mess of firing Lopetegui on the eve of the World Cup, and Spain needs to get their act together again under a new manager.
But we’d be very surprised if Rafa wants the job at this time.
We hope he doesn’t want the job!
That’s because Newcastle need to keep him at the club for a long-term stay.
