Rafa Has Shown Great Loyalty To Newcastle – Time For Owner To Repay That

Rafa has done a lot of good things at Newcastle United since he arrived on that magic Friday – also known as 11th March 2016 – when he came to Newcastle.

That’s when most of us couldn’t really believe he was going to sing on for Newcastle -= and Mike Ashley was still the owner.

Let’s give Ashley a bit of credit here – it’s the best thing he has ever done at Newcastle – by miles.

And a smiling Rafa came to St. James’ Park and signed on as manager – but alas, just failed to save us from relegation.

Somehow the fans and journalists persuaded the gaffer to stay with us down in the Championship.

Our favorite photo of Rafa Benitez – marching into battle for Newcastle
He didn’t expect it to be a battle against Newcastle owner Mike Ashley

And it’s that type of loyalty that makes us think he will stay long-term at Newcastle – even if Ashley is still the owner.

The last two seasons have been phenomenal under Rafa and both terrific successes finishing top in the Championship last year and then 10th last season in the Premier League

To maintain that momentum we need to see Newcastle challenging for a top six position next season in England’s top league.

And Rafa is busily trying to ensure we get enough talented players in, so we have a chance of accomplishing that.

To be fair, we have signed two players with what Rafa needs this summer – class – goalkeeper Marvin Dubravka and Ki Sung-yueng – an underrated star from Swansea in central midfield.

Those are two excellent players, and we got them in for just £4M.

Mike Ashley has been reticent to spend money at Newcastle especially when we are in a good position like we are at the moment.

His attitude is – why do I need to spend money when we are 10th in the Premier League?

In any business, you are either improving or going backwards, and when you do nothing, you are going backwards – there is no hovering in the universe.

That will not do for Rafa Benitez who is used to challenging for titles, and he’s been so loyal to Newcastle for 28 months.

It’s about time Mike Ashley thanked him by supporting the manager 100% this summer.

What do you think?

Can’t see Rafa signing a new contract without evidence
    of support from MA.

And I can’t see MA supporting Rafa with a decent transfer
    budget unless Rafa signs.

Standoff. MA places too much importance on ‘face’ and
‘winning’ so I can’t see him backing down.
Only option may be a 1-year rolling contract.

bit ambitious, i’d say season after next for that.

Look, we need to get rid of Rafa and appoint Jesper, he clearly knows better. We can look forward to the rotating captains armband that Brazil so successfully employed and the kits will be exceptionally clean as well

I agree with Jesper re the centre forwards we have acquired recently and put Rondon into the same category.
Slimani, Joselu were decent enough players, good work rate etc but missing that one attribute needed in the PL – the ability to score goals and not miss a bag full of sitters.
WBA fans (some) suggest if Rondon had not missed as many sitters they might not have been relegated.

Also surely posters can be “allowed” an opinion to suggest some players are poor, whether we sign them or not.
I think once signed players will get support (initially at least) from supporters and then if things do not go well they also can voice their disdain. Surely we all have opinions or should we believe everyone we signed should never be criticised.

    Re “whingers”
West Ham have signed Jack Wilshere on a free! Wages over 3 years come to 15 million approx!
Our owner is pathetic and do you really believe the teams you listed won’t spend big?
It’s fcukin obvious we’re in another one of these budget buy situations!
Time you gave your heed a shake man!

Moonraker, Wilshere was never coming here, not if his boy-hood club wanted him – think Shearer.

Poor Mr Ashley. He thinks he has Rafa in a corner. He does not. Rafa will not sign a new contract until Mr Ashley shows some ambition, which he wont.

What we need is for someone , not Penfold, to point out that Rafa can just walk away at the end of his contract. No-one would blame him, even the NUFC fans. The resulting mess will see a huge chunk taken off Mr Ashley’s asking price for NUFC. £400m? You’re having a laugh Mike! The real accurate price will be more like £200M and that’s only if we can maintain our PL status after Rafa has left.

Rafa can just walk into a job he fancies. Mr Ashley will struggle to find a suitable replacement. Of course there always ex-managers would can con Mr Ashley into thinking they would be a good fit for NUFC, but the they are ex-managers for a reason ; they’ve been sacked as they aren’t up to running a football club.

I just hope once all the laughing has got too much for Ashley he’ll sell up and the owners will appoint Rafa again.

While we’re all over the moon Rafa is our manager and he’s doing a fantastic job under the circumstances, that doesn’t mean he’s perfect, nobody is! His scouting on striker’s are from good to disappointing, in other words most fans wouldn’t consider all of them as an option. But under the regime it’s the regime who go for the cheapest option so until MA changes or go’s nothing will change.

But where is the money ?
£4m is a very small amount so far.
West Ham seem to be on a cash splurge
Why can’t we spend something reasonable or do we wait again in hope

Specifically in the case of Wilshere, i never thought that any club would be stupid enough to pay him £5m a year and I’m glad we haven’t.
There are, though, good players out there worth investing in and I sincerely hope that work is being done under the radar.
On Spurs. Agreed they make a great example…at least on the surface. But there are notable differences in terms of ownership – they are largely owned by an investment company rather than an individual – and hence will speculate to accumulate. They have loans of well over £400m after the stadium build but they have also made great annual profits in the last few years. Loans are not something Ashley would be prepared to do. Levy pays himself £6m a year (twice as much as any other EPL director) directly from the clubs coffers, as well as owning 29% or shares. Spurs are work in progress on the speculation approach…I think we’ll not really see the true outcome for a couple of years.
For me and what I don’t like is that the club is all Ashley’s (i.e. one person’s). There’s no balance and no second opinion at his level – no one with equal skin in the game to help balance some of the stupid decisions. He seems in constant fear of his investment being devalued and hence has become completely averse to taking a risk or looking ahead 2+ years. This is what I find most frustrating.

Rafa was one of the managers who believed
that having the transfer window still open when
the PL got underway effected performance .
    I essence he was right
    BUT
The clubs couldn’t have picked a worse year to
    curtail the window.

I think this summer has finally ended the debate as to which premier league club has the worst owner. West Ham are all over the transfer window. Newcastle, AS USUAL, non-existent.
Hopefully we have incomings lined up as clubs in the Pl are starting to make there move for players..We on the other hand??

Another thing MA must take a good luck at his on stubborn stupidity, he has gone through alot of money while owning the club, alot wasted but one of his biggest downfalls has been sticking with flawed managers (yes men) in the past.

Mister Tuff dont you think we all know Slimani, Joselu signings haven’t worked for us but at £5m Joselu was worth the risk and be honest could end up a very good squad player especially coming off the bench to run games down.
Slimani cost leicester city £27m and we only had him on loan so no big loss financially to us, he was also a last minute loan at the very end of the window, what exactly was the alternative start the season without him by that time we had very little choice of available players clubs were willing to let go at such short notice
the only person to blame for the lack of quality signing is Ashley and his penny pinching attitude to our football club

as for Jasper how many times has he got to post the same rubbish, he’s made his point and most of us don’t agree with him repeating it over and over again wont alter people’s opinions just harden them against his stupidity

#nufc and Chelsea have held extensive discussions on Kenedy today. Currently negotiating a loan fee. Deal could be done soon and before Ireland if things go well.

If this is just a loan then personally think its an absolute joke. So I am hoping there is a option to buy attached

I don’t care much for your opinion but I am not going to tell you you shouldn’t have one…

Hibbit – don’t think I suggested at all the general feeling about Slimani and Joselu was not that they had not worked out. Clearly they didn’t.
Alternatives to last minute acquisitions is to do the business earlier (obviously) but we have Tubbs and Junior Tubbs who in my opinion are the cause of delays. How to change it ??? Can only suggest it will not change until we are shot of them. Basically nowt we can do.

Thanks for reminding Jib that Spurs were in the more prior to signing Rednapp up in October 2008. Jib, that is not the end of the season!

It just goes to show that your memory’s shown Jiblets that Google’s not the be all and end all.

Jib, for your information (and copied from the web!) here’s an extract from an open letter, written by Daniel Levy in October 2008:

‘…The English Premier League is an unforgiving competition – time was no longer on our side and was a luxury we simply could not afford. We have quite clearly not performed to the best of our ability for many months now and our poor run of form is not something we could allow to continue unchecked……’ ‘

He appointed Rednapp who helped them to avoid relegation.

My personal opinion dude which I am entitled to .
We can only manage another loan deal and we are less than a month away from the start of the season. This makes us no more than a feeder club for Chelsea, What are we the Vitesse Arnhem of the PL ??.
I don’t believe for one minute that Rafa will be happy with this deal if there is no option to buy, He has a cracking season with us and his value rockets beyond our realm.
I am glad he is coming back as he is a cracking player for us to have, But just for another loan, A joke
