Rafa Talks About How Newcastle Must Do Their Transfer Business

Rafa Benitez has been interviewed in the Chronicle today, and he hints that Newcastle are far too slow in their negotiations for players in the transfer market.

We already knew that, but it’s still a problem this summer with Rafa saying if you are to be successful in the transfer market you cannot waste too much time.

Wasting time is something Newcastle are famous for, and when we cannot agree on a transfer fee for a player with another club, then things can be held in abeyance for weeks or even months.

Two men who do transfers – Lee Charnley and Rafa Benitez

With a shortened summer transfer window we cannot do that, and Rafa has also said there is still plenty of time to sign players if we do things in the right way.

This is what he has said about this summer’s transfer market which is tough because the prices are so high:

“We can’t talk about players at the moment. We are just working and trying to get closer to some players.”

“It depends on so many things and we can’t say too much.”

“It is difficult because the prices have gone very high for everyone. Some people say: ‘Oh the deadline is the problem’.:

“It’s not.”

“If you are ready and you do what you have to do there is plenty of time.” “It’s just to be sure when you go for a player you make sure you sign him.”

“You don’t want to waste too much time so you know more or less then you go for it and that’s it.”

Hopefully, we can announce the loan deal for Kenedy today and then we will have Dubravka, Sung-yuen and Kenedy as new signings so far – all good deals for the club.

Now Rafa needs at least one new striker brought in.

And we need to get deals finalized for players like Mbemba, Mitrovic, and others – who will be leaving the club this summer.

There’s still a lot of work to do – both incoming and outgoing.

Rafa stresses Newcastle have to show some speed in doing deals.

He’s right there.

Comments welcome.

Do the players go to Ireland today? If so, if Kenedy hasn’t yet been finalised, does he get on the plane with them? I’ll be interested to see who else does / doesn’t

Also, I hope it’s not an evening flight….

I take Rafas comments as “nothing’s changed”

He’s identified targets done all the leg work and the club is still cutting his legs off.

We’ll never get players over the line offering 75% of what their parent clubs want.

I wonder if Kenedy is stopping in a Hotel or he was confident enough to keep his house on from last season? 😉

I thought Croatia looked absolutely knackered on extra time in the Russia game
Two extra time games and two penalty shootouts plus players in the twilight of their careers has taken its toll and with England having a relatively easy passage I think England will win easy

Charlie, I agree – the’re going to be chasing shadows with our players being younger and very comfortable with the ball which should compound any fatigue they already have. They’ll also struggle to break with any kind of pace which is the one area we’ve looked frail this tournament.

We could lose this game, but I don’t think we will. As ever, the first goal will be critical.

We have a young team mate and I believe this is just the beginning.Ambition and belief for England to do well…Should go hand in hand with Nufc as well if we had an owner that thought the same way

I would be shocked if England don’t make the final. France will be the only proper test you guys have had .. except Belgium but you both put out B teams and losing that has really worked out for you. I can’t remember a team having such an easy route to the final

I like Tsunki’s humour but it requires an open mind to appreciate it.

He had a speech impediment but I thought he was recently divorced. Evidently not.

From yesterday. Jail House Rock was number one in September 1957. It was listed on the birthday card I bought my Dad for his 60 th as other momentous happenings during the year.
I have no axe to grind with you because you’re respectful towards women just like my Dad.

Wijnaldum is set to leave Liverpool?

Now that’s a #10 player that would do well for us…

Croatia have looked very poor and don’t even deserve a No 20 ranking from FIFA, surely England can beat them , think we’ll get hammered by France in the final like but thats another matter.

I hope Toon get an equally easy route to F.A Cup final this year, i.e. no games against premier league opposition or possibly even championship … can’t choose who you play but given the choice I would have picked Englands opponents all the way ))

He is apparently being made available for transfer by Liverpool always wonder what might have been if when we had signed him Rafa was his manager from the very start !

Yarmolenko now at Hammers confirmed allows Michail Antonio to go to Palace, Townsend to come here, Ritchie to Stoke and Shakiri to Liverpool.

It’s a shame imo that we can’t have both Ritchie and Townsend, I hope he gets to play here again if he goes before the end of the season to get a proper send off.
