Liverpool’s Bid For Goalkeeper Makes Newcastle Deal Look Unbelievable

We had heard rumors during the World Cup that Brazil’s 25-year-old goalkeeper  Alison had a transfer fee on his head of over £60M.

At first, I thought I hadn’t heard the fee correctly but now Liverpool have made a bid of £62M for the Roma goalkeeper who has played 31 times for Brazil.

He has played 64 games for Roma in the two years he’s been there after signing on from Internacional based in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.

26-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Alison – £62M

In his first season in Rome he was the understudy to Polish International and former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who moved to Juventus a year ago.

So if Alison is worth £62M our new goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka has to be the signing of the summer for just £4M.

Martin showed this year while on loan that he is a top goalkeeper, and if he continues in that form he could become one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League,

Newcastle need to keep getting some bargain buys – but we also need to pay out the big money for top players if we are going to become a top six club in the Premier League.

29 year-old Slovakian goalkeeper Martin Dubravka – £4M

In contrast to the money Liverpool are willing to pay out for Alison – Dubravka is more than a bargain buy for Newcastle this summer.

Comments welcome.

It’s probably a bad time to mention this but a lot more season tickets have just been released all over the ground if anybody is interested?

To compete in top 8, it will be key to have strong scouting department and academy, there is a lot of bargains, Tiote (RIP), Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Dubravka, Jose Enrique, Jonas, Demba Ba and others…nobody of these players cost more than 8M, which is ubelievable…so I have no problem with bargains, but our scouting fails in Joselu, Manquillo, Murphy…If we can bring some undiscovered gems, then OK…but we have to also bring some experienced players, which are proven at this level…

don’t count on Rafa getting £20m to spend out of the Mitro sale,
what happens if Fulham want to pay in instalments common practice among other clubs, say £4m a year for 5 years ,that would only give £4m to spend this window !!!
    just a thought ???

Jesus what a team that was in that time, Collocini in that season, Demba Ba, Cabaye, Tiote, Jonas, Jose Enrique, Cisse, HBA, some real quality there…

Toonfan8 @3 – When you take a chance on ‘bargain’ players you’re bound to have some failures as well as successes – personally I think it is too early to label Murphy a flop yet!

    Hibbit,
It was suggested by the accountant on lesh’s post yesterday that we now pay in 5 year installments, so if true we can use that £4m to get a £20m player.

Jib: Ki for me is upgrade on Merino for sure, proven at this level, professional. I think all 3 players are great signings, Dubravka and Kenedy also. But we have to add another 4-5 like that, Rondon, Origi (if Rafa wants them, I am OK with that), De Arrascaeta, LB and CB….not that much money Rondon 16,5, Origi 10, De Arrascaeta 18, CB 10, LB 10…we dont have to sell Ritchie if Townsend wont be here…this is 64,5 spent and Mitro, Merino, Mbemba, Colback, Sels, Gayle can cover 55M of that….so just 10M spent…but players which Rafa wants here and would improve us massively without too much money spended.

to the people complaining about the people who have a wait and see attitude, the weather forecast says it will rain tomorrow but today it’s not raining so i won’t sit in the sunshine all glum and angry. if you do that you’ll spend your whole life in the rain. live in the moment, be happy. we’ve got rafa. he seems keen to stay as long as we fix youth academy and keep moving forward. also pint half full people live longer.

We’ve been waiting on Sarri being appointed at Chelsea as we thought it may give us an opportunity to sign further players from there. It looks to me like Rafa and Sarri are fairly close. Sarri followed Rafa as Napoli manager, where Rafa stayed to the end of his contract and presumably helped recruit him. His appointment by Chelsea could even have been done with Rafa’s input. Before he was appointed, as soon as we beat them last season, Rafa called him ‘a great coach’

I had no idea there was a relationship there (there may not be), but if there is it can only help us to get the heads up when players are to be put on the market.

Liverpool must have a very weak defense if they need a 62 million goalie to bail them out.

    £60m ?
For one moment I thought Liverpool were buying us.
£60m down payment plus £60m a year instalments for the next 5 years and Mike gets his money.
    He likes a bargain deal.
Not sure I’ll learn scouse like.

    over Rondon
    29 in 2 months
    Out of contract next Summer
Only ever scored 20 goals in a season
    (and that was in Russia!)

Anything north of £7.5M is just not on

If people have any sense, they’d not by an ST. Doing that is giving the club money up front, money Ashley’s not prepared to invest in deciding the best manager we’ve had for many a year.

Buy a ST and have your support acknowledged with two fingers from Ashley.

No. It’s the sign of an ambitious club that is willing to invest in the best in order to move onwards and upwards in the football world even after the good season just gone.( Although I can’t help feeling that 60 mil. for Alison is a bit too much.)
Contrast the pathetic spend of our illustrious owner after we finished 5th. a few years ago.

Why oh why have we been saddled with Ashley?

If there is a god, please find us a wealthy, ambitious soul who wants to help our club reach its potential and make many thousands of people happier, please buy out the Newcastle United’s current owner who’s shown himself to be an evil, greedy liar.

Such a person won’t be disappointed and will be lauded as the saviour of Newcastle United.

Rafa and Sarri may have a long-time association but the the major obstacle to any buys from Chelsea, or anywhere else for that matter is our visionary owner!

Live in hope but be realistic.

I suspect that even if Fulham wanted to pay £20m cash, Ashley being awkward would insist in two instalments to prevent Rafa using it – 5% now and 95% come June 2019 sounds about right.

I am realistic, we have money to spend, even if we have to wait for outbound transfers. To imagine that we couldn’t buy one of the Chelsea fringe players is unrealistic.

You’re partly right – I don’t believe we’ll buy the quality we need outright.

I can see loans with a view to buy, but if Rafa’s not around next season, those loanees being just that – loanees.

Ashley’s clearly not prepared to allow Rafa any new money to spend. Oh and before you mention Dubs, he was bought in the last financial year.

Again, I’d be over the moon to be proved wrong

Rob Leenio – I see you have mentioned a few conspiracy theories over the last week. Cannot recall the first, but the second is the fabricated Chronicle interview, and the most recent being that Rafa is big chums with Sarri and helped to recruit him at Napoli. All interesting stuff.

Seeing that you are knocking about today what do you think of the following:-

    1. Elvis Presley was seen working in Woolworths in Glasgow 20 years ago.

    2. Lord Lucan stole Shergar the racehorse, following plastic surgery to both, they later appeared as the stars in the Steptoe and Son sit com on the BBC, with Lucan becoming Wilfred Bramble and Shergar becoming the old nag that pulled the rag and bone cart.

    3. David Ickes theory that the world has already been taken over by reptillians – the lizard men.

lesh, if we don’t make any permanent signings then yes, obviously any Rafa link with Sarri is worthless as we can’t loan another player from them due to FA / UEFA / FIFA rules, whoever made them up.

But if we are in the market for permanent signings (and I hope to God we are) then Chelsea have a bloated squad, a large budget and, potentially, a manager who has a good relationship with ours.

Assuming the owner doesn’t chuff it up (I know, big assumption) then that could give us an advantage in signing a player when one of our targets becomes available. It surely can’t hurt.
