It’s Not Great – But Too Early To Go Negative On This Transfer Window

Rafa Benitez is having a tough time of it at the moment, but we don’t think it’s as bad as is being reported.

We have three good players in this summer in Kenedy, Sung-yueng and Martin Dubravka but with three weeks left in the window, we still don’t know whether this will turn out to be a good window or not.

What is evident is that Mike Ashley is not spending much money although we should be able to get close to £30M if we can sell Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham and Mbemba to Porto.

The Mbemba move has been held up for weeks now, and it’s typical of Newcastle to wait to try to get a little bit more for a player who has no future at the club.

Rafa Benitez – keeping an even keel

Mbemba hasn’t even reported back to Newcastle for training.

Newcastle should have sold him to Porto at least a couple of weeks ago.

With Ashley’s unwillingness to provide Rafa with suitable funds for the fourth transfer window running Rafa’s long-term future at Newcastle doesn’t look good at the moment.

But the manager is keen to make a go of it on Tyneside, and it only takes a couple of decent signings to make this transfer window a good one.

And he wants everybody associated with the club to stick together.

Newcastle fans are still the key to Rafa staying on at Newcastle, and we don’t know what Ashley’s plans are for selling the club.

But with a couple of decent signings in the next three weeks, things could still turn out well this summer.

It’s far too early to go too negative about this transfer window, and Rafa seems to be keeping an even keel about it.

It’s not great but it can still turn out to be a decent window with Rafa’s squad stronger than it was last season.

That’s the hope.

Keep the faith.

Rafa is everything Mashley is not – and I think he doesn’t like him for it. Professional, measured, educated and dedicated. Rafa is assured And confident in football matters he knows best. And of course, adored by fans. Not what Mashley likes to see in an employee. Not a yes man. Hard not to see this transfer window as constructive dismissal yet again.

It’s all down to trust and belief in Ashley. And he hasn’t done anything to give him any of that.

My brother is a Liverpool supporter and even he was disgusted at how far Newcastle have fallen under Ashley, especially after hearing how much Liverpool have spent on a keeper and how little we’ve spent over the last 3 windows. From a Liverpool supporter saying that Ashley isn’t just bad for Newcastle, but bad for football – it’s really trying times. But I’d like to wait the end of the window before I lose my rag. Even so, I still feel I have to be there for Rafa and the lads over the coming season. I guess the more loyal you are as a supporter, the harder it is to send Ashley the message he needs to hear. “YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!”

I wonder if he’s tried the lost and found desk.
It’ll probably have been handed in.

Worst bit about being a Toon fan is being told by other fans that Ashley has bankrolled us and we should be grateful to him!!

Shouldn’t complain just be happy to make the numbers up in the premiership don’t ever look to improve the club is general crap we get from other teams supporters

We know he wants to sell the club, has lost all interest in it, and won’t be putting in any money at all. We also know nobody on the planet thinks NUFC is worth what he wants. This is a very uncomfortable position for all concerned, manager, owner and fans. It won’t change until he sells. At least we can expect Rafa to have decent money from sales, and it seems to me pointless to express an opinion on this transfer window until these things happen, which will all come about in the next (very) few weeks. It’s pointless expecting the owner to change his policy, we all just have to live with it. Roll on some new owners!
