Benitez Laments Lack Of Support For 4th Window Running – Sets Stage To Leave Newcastle?

Rafa Benitez has finally come out and said that because he is not being backed in the transfer market then Newcastle will have to ensure they stay up this season – that’s the goal again for a second successive season.

And it all seems like deja vu all over again.

This is what happened last summer when Mike Ashley refused to spend money but this is one year later, and we have been paid £123M by the Premier League.

It’s the fourth window running that Mike Ashley has refused to support the manager with sufficient funding.

If Mike Ashley doesn’t want to back Rafa, then he should leave before we lose the boss and then we’ll be back in the dark ages again.

Rafa Benitez – a frustrated manager currently at Newcastle

Rafa has said the goal this season has to be to stay up because of a lack of investment from the owner :

“Next year the target will be to stay up.”

“The reality is that the Premier League is difficult, and every year the others spend money and bring new players.”

“You don’t know because we finished tenth this past year, we can automatically)be in the middle next season, because everyone else is spending.”

“We have to fix a target to stay up and that is it.”

“Concentrate on staying up and then after that see where.”

“It will be more difficult than last year.”

“Fulham, Wolves are spending….Huddersfield, Brighton…everyone is spending, making it more difficult.”

“Yeah I was hoping for more than a battle against relegation but it is what we have at the moment.:

“Yes, 100% it will be tougher this coming season.”

“Fulham and Wolves have big money and when you talk about the market, you know what offers they are making.”

“They will be stronger at the beginning than Huddersfield and Brighton, but Brighton and Huddersfield are already in the Premier League and they are spending some more money.

“Then you see West Ham, they are spending some money.”

This is all depressing and disappointing, and if Mike Ashley will not support Rafa, he should get out.

He keeps saying he will sell Newcastle but the three times he has done that seem to be nothing but a PR stunt.

It will not help with players coming to the club this summer either, and maybe Rafa is setting the stage to fans that he will leave – if not now then definitely next summer when his contract runs out.

If Rafa leaves the club – and these comments are very worrying – then Mike Ashley will be held 100% accountable and responsible.

Even when he has a world-class manager in place who has done miracles over the past two seasons for the club – Ashley still won’t support him.

That’s why he has to leave Newcastle.

Did I say this is all very disappointing?

Comments welcome.

Ashley cannot get out because no one will buy the club for £300 million never mind the £400 million he wants.

Yes Charlie, but if he takes say half the Sky money, £62m, out of the club, it drops his alleged debt to around £80m, add the cash he paid and that’s around the £200-220m, so selling it for £300, makes him a tidy profit.

I wonder if that’s what he’s doing? Reducing his exposure in order to sell?

From previous post. You are now looking increasingly ridiculous in your defence of Ashley’s running of NUFC.
Can you remind me of the positives, other than that we haven’t gone bust?

I’m disappointed with the window so far just like everyone. I expected Mitro, Mbemba, Aarons and Colback at least to be sold with £35M in fees added to our transfer pot, a strike and LB in as minimum by this point (on top of the signings we’ve actually made and the promise of more signings with the TV money.

It hasn’t happened that way, but I’m still optimistic for the new season.

Rafa has said we need to avoid relegation, but I don’t see that as being too much of an issue. Our team is one year more experienced, the new players we signed last season know what is expected of them and the system they will be working in and we have made an upgrade to left wing, goalkeeper and Centre Mid since the start of last season.

I’d expect the team as it stands to be better than it was last time round, which should see us comfortably away from the drop zone. If that counts as a season of consolidation which is what we all expected, then fine. Hopefully our comfort (if I’m right) in mid table can show any prospective buyers that we’re worth a punt, Ashley will lower his prices due to paying off his own loans and we can get the club out of his hands.

You never know, we may even sign one or two more players yet – there is still time – which will help to lift the gloom and give the team a boost. Striker and LB are essential in my eyes, anything else on top is a bonus.

Good on Rafa if you leave no one would blame you. All you want is the best for the club . This will come to a collision this time.
The fat one has no interest whatsoever and he will be hounded out hopefully this will only get worse until we are finally rid of the parasite well done Rafa

The optimism on the blog reminds me of lottery optimism, works 5hit life’s 5hit but I’ll win the lottery this week.

About the same odds of winning the lottery than Ashley doing something positive for the future of the club.

All this just proves the theory that SD and nufc are one and the same if one is failing they both do and if one is doing good the other benefits from the profits or commercial deals that come with success it’s all interlinked why would SD pay for all the advertising they receive from nufc? Why would nufc shop around and get the best kit supplier deal out there when SD benefits so much from the relationship with puma? Where has the fun88 sponsorship money gone?

Now is the time to E-mail Mike Ashley and ask for a refund on season tickets as he has lied to us, if he got 30000 emails in the next week asking for a refund he would no doubt offer credit notes to be used in the future, but hey what a headache to give him.

The team has 1 year more experience under its belt but that doesn’t mean it’ll do better than last season. Whilst we stand still others around and below us improve by bringing in quality, that only means one thing. We wont be better than last season as the opposition will be better.

It’s good that you are optimistic but take it from rafa, this will not be am easy season and don’t be surprised if we go down. In football you can’t stand still as we proved when finishing 5th

Why is this season avoiding relegation not an issue, you an jane have spent all summer telling us this season was about consolidation, last season was about survival, the owner is rotten and has no interest in the club as a footballing success, what bit don’t you get?

A group of players finished fifth, realised what the owner had in store for them and nearly got relegated the season after. Do not give me guff about the players knowing the system, you need fresh places for competition year in year out, it’s called progression.

    Well Lee Charnley Bunga Party,
It is pretty simple Newcastle pay 3 times the wages that what the buying clubs want to pay, the players will stay until their contracts are up. Looks like Colback will go on loan and we pay most of his wages.

You look at the first 8 games apart from the cardiff one we will be luck to get much from the other 7 which will define our season if where in the bottom 3 it will be a scrap to survive and of all the teams one person keeps saying have not got any players in yet they never mention west ham who are getting players in strange one.

Ashley is certainly pretty cut throat at this brinksmanship and negotiations malarkey if this is as reported. I wonder if Rafa saw it coming. But surely if you put the screw on Rafa he’ll just slide right of there, and Ashley knows it. He’s prepared to lose him, has quite probably accepted it, maybe even prefers it, if things are as being reported, which of course they probably aren’t. I’m gonna take a “Tsunki” till we see something a bit more conclusive.

Jail, I agree the owner is rotten, I did go on to say that we could hope to have him out of the club later this coming season.

Why do you cherry pick which parts of a post you respond to and ignore the rest?

How would another, more comfortable mid-table finish not be consolidation?

Definition of consolidation: “the action or process of combining a number of things into a single more effective or coherent whole.” – exactly as I described above with the whole team improvement.

Our Toon, the quality brought in by others has yet to be proven. Just because they’re spending money doesn’t mean they’re buying a better team. West Ham and Everton proved last season that improving the team isn’t just a case of throwing money at it. Rafa is disappointed because he wanted the right players brought in at the right time, not because we haven’t spent the same amount as other clubs.

I will be very much surprised if we go down. Rafa is setting out his priorities as last season – first avoid relegation, then see where we stand.

Wouldn’t surprise me if some of the players who are set to leave are wanting to see if Rafa quits as it could allow them back into the frame…..

I might apply for a job and bring to light further abuse of the employer/employee legislation

The man abuses such laws. He is the equivalent of a modern day slave master. He has been investigated by panarama, still no action taken.

He is a dictator who breeches the rules around proper ownership of a club yet uses “weasel words” and “clever” accounting to make it look like hes doing a good job

The club doesn’t have to declare what payment is being made, eg to Ashley but it would show in the accounts. However, if he declared he was paying himself I think most of us would welcome that and see it as a sign that he is preparing to sell up! However, as usual not a word from him. Going back to his “every penny” statement, that was obviously a LIE.
