L’Equipe are reporting today that Newcastle are interested in signing Torino’s 78 times capped Cameroon International center-back Nicolas N’Koulou.
He is a terrific player although for a center-back he’s not particularly tall at 6ft.
Nicolas has played for Monaco, Marseille, and Lyon in the French League until he went on loan last season to Torino with an option to buy.
The move was made permanent this year.
There’s no doubt the defender is a class player who made his international debut ten years ago back in November 2008 in a friendly game against South Africa.
With Mbemba (presumably) going to move to Porto sometime before August 9th, Rafa Benitez will need to bring in another central defender, and the Cameroon International would be a good acquisition.

West Ham are also said to be another Premier League clubs interested in signing N’Koulou.
Newcastle were interested in N’Koulou back in 2013 and also way back in 2009, so this is not the first time we have been linked with the defender.
But the big question at Newcastle is do we have the money to bring these types of players into the club this summer?
And N’Koulou is attracting a lot of interest after his fine form for Torino last season.
L’Equipe are reporting that Sevilla have bid €10M for N’Koulou and that bid has been rejected with the Italian club wanting €20M for their star defender.
If that is correct, it probably rules Newcastle out with the player being too expensive.
How many times has that happened since Rafa arrived at the club?
What do you think?
