Rafa Benitez Interested In Signing This Classy Experienced Defender

L’Equipe are reporting today that Newcastle are interested in signing Torino’s 78 times capped Cameroon International center-back Nicolas N’Koulou.

He is a terrific player although for a center-back he’s not particularly tall at 6ft.

Nicolas has played for Monaco, Marseille, and Lyon in the French League until he went on loan last season to Torino with an option to buy.

The move was made permanent this year.

There’s no doubt the defender is a class player who made his international debut ten years ago back in November 2008 in a friendly game against South Africa.

With Mbemba (presumably) going to move to Porto sometime before August 9th, Rafa Benitez will need to bring in another central defender, and the Cameroon International would be a good acquisition.

28-year-old Cameroon International center-back Nicolas N’Koulou

West Ham are also said to be another Premier League clubs interested in signing N’Koulou.

Newcastle were interested in N’Koulou back in 2013 and also way back in 2009, so this is not the first time we have been linked with the defender.

But the big question at Newcastle is do we have the money to bring these types of players into the club this summer?

And N’Koulou is attracting a lot of interest after his fine form for Torino last season.

L’Equipe are reporting that Sevilla have bid €10M for N’Koulou and that bid has been rejected with the Italian club wanting €20M for their star defender.

If that is correct, it probably rules Newcastle out with the player being too expensive.

How many times has that happened since Rafa arrived at the club?

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

You think you’ve heard it all until Jib pipes up with it being logical not to give Rafa any money until he signs a new deal. So that means it must be entirely logical to give a new second rate manager all the funds while letting one of the best managers walk away because of lack of funds and backing.
You could seriously not make that up.

£700 raised in 16 hours by that new group, I hope it’s to target his shops, I’ll stand outside dissuading people to shop, I’ll even go up to the till with a hundred items before forgetting my credit card and starting again.

You think you’ve heard it all until Jib pipes up with it being logical

You have serious comprehension difficulties don’t you

The logic is in Ashley’s business model which we all agree
is seriously flawed and totally inappropriate for a footy club

engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed man is very tiring

Richarlison for 50m is beyond ridiculous. He had a few good games near the start and that was it. I get the feeling a lot of these teams taking out bank loans are just buying whatever crap players are available and that most of them will fail in the toughest league in the world. I still fancy West Ham to go down. They had a 50m player last season too (Portugese DM from Euros/ Inter Milan) and they were rubbish then and they’ll also lose Arnautovic. One thing is certain if a big spending team goes down, then they are certain to do a Villa/ Sunderland/ Leeds unless their chairman can bail them out or they have a player they can sell for 60m+.
